Matthew Minnick hired McManus Kitchen and Bath to transform a cramped 1450-square-foot 1980s home. By removing a major load-bearing wall and reworking existing space, McManus created an open-concept kitchen with a full quartz slab island and brought the laundry room indoors. Minnick highlighted their proactive project management and fixed-value approach as key benefits.

“His kind of architectural creativity stood apart from all the others and then also just his organization and level of detail.”
“It felt like I really had an executive partner or assistant doing all the day-to-day work. And all I had to do was stay up in the upper level of making the decisions.”
“The island is a true full slab of quartz. And so I think it's kind of a showstopper when people come over.”
The interview
What made McManus Kitchen and Bath stand out during the quoting process?
It was apparent from the beginning that Paul was the only one who said he didn't think we needed to build an extra mudroom space; he suggested we could rework the space we had. His architectural creativity stood apart from all the others, as did his organization and level of detail.
What specific areas of your home did you remodel?
We used McManus for a kitchen, living room, mud room, and dining room, all together. We bought the house in 2013 as a starter home, but as we grew in the home, it became apparent we needed to address the kitchen to make it more user-friendly and host-friendly.
What were the main frustrations with your original 1980s home layout?
It was a galley kitchen with not a lot of space; if you had more than two people in there, you felt cramped. There was a huge wall separating the living room and kitchen in a small 1450-square-foot house. Also, our washer and dryer were outside in the garage, which is not ideal in a North Florida summer.
How did the project management team handle the daily construction tasks?
Whatever the problem was, I never had to put much mental bandwidth towards it. Elliot, the project manager, was the point of contact for subcontractors and equipment providers. He triaged a lot of that work before it even got to us, so it felt like I had an executive partner doing the day-to-day work while I just made the decisions.
What are your favorite features of the new space?
The island is a true full slab of quartz and a total showstopper. Now that we have an eight-month-old, the open space allows us to see the baby from the kitchen. The mudroom has also been phenomenal; it's where we wash the dog, do laundry, and even wash the baby. The tile and the light from the window really tie it together.
Would you hire McManus Kitchen and Bath again for future projects?
We are actually getting ready to do our bathroom and we've chosen Paul again. It's one of those things where you always hear, 'would you use them again?' We are using them again.
How has the company handled follow-up service since the project ended?
It's been over a year since the renovation. Occasionally there might be a little corner on the molding that needs a look; Paul sends someone over the day of and addresses it with no fee, no questions asked. They really stand by their work.
Frequently asked
How does McManus Kitchen and Bath handle project management for busy homeowners?
Matt Minnick described his project manager, Elliot, as an 'executive partner' who triaged all subcontractor communication and equipment providers. This allowed the homeowners to focus on high-level decisions without the stress of day-to-day management while working full-time.
Can I add a mudroom without building an addition to my house?
Yes; Paul from McManus suggested reworking the existing interior space rather than building an extra mudroom addition. According to Matt, this architectural creativity provided a functional mudroom and laundry area within the home's original footprint.
Does McManus Kitchen and Bath provide support after the renovation is finished?
Matt Minnick noted that over a year after the renovation, the company still sends staff the same day to address minor issues like molding adjustments at no cost and with 'no questions asked.'
