David and Aryana Armistead describe 40 Years of Zen as a fundamental experience for achieving breakthroughs in self-love and forgiveness. By marrying ketamine therapy with isolation pods, music, and neuroplasticity, they reported a powerful internal transformation. Even with extensive prior psychedelic experience, they found the program's specific blend of support and introspection to be uniquely effective.

The interview

Who are you and what is your recent experience with the program?

I'm David Armistead and I'm Aryana Armistead from San Marcos, Texas. We just got back from Level 2 at 40 Years of Zen three weeks ago and we are still on fire.

What was the primary internal shift you experienced during the work?

The spirit of the whole way of learning and loving and forgiving. Loving ourselves, loving everybody and forgiving anything we've carried for a long, long time and then decided to let go of it. The whole process of doing the work at 40 Years of Zen is so helpful for that.

How did the ketamine component contribute to your progress?

The ketamine experience was absolutely amazing and fundamental to breakthroughs. We've both done a lot of ketamine work and psychedelic work over the years, all the way from the Amazon to doctors' offices, and I've consulted ketamine clinics on business operations from New Zealand to Canada, and there's nothing like this. It's the one.

What makes the 40 Years of Zen methodology unique compared to other clinics?

They've married it to the right blend of isolation and took that plasticity and tied it to music and to introspection and to prep and to support and to after-briefings and it is so powerful.

What was the environment and community like during your stay?

There's so much love involved in the whole process from the food we ate to the people we met and did some of the process with to the pods and going inside the pods and just living in our own worlds.

What did you discover about yourself through the introspection pods?

Learning all about who we are, really, on the inside—not just on the outside and how other people see us, but who we are on the inside. And who is the person we want to be? And finding out, 'Wow, we already are that person.' That's very fundamental and very powerful for realizing love.

Frequently asked

How does 40 Years of Zen compare to other ketamine clinics?

David Armistead, who has consulted for ketamine clinics globally, states there is 'nothing like this' because it marries the experience with isolation, music, and neuroplasticity. He notes that the specific blend of prep, support, and after-briefings makes it uniquely powerful compared to standard medical or traditional settings.

What is the emotional outcome of the Level 2 program?

Aryana and David report achieving a spirit of 'learning and loving and forgiving,' specifically letting go of things they had carried for a long time. They describe the process as fundamental for realizing love for themselves and others.

Is the 40 Years of Zen experience isolated or supported?

The couple describes a balance of 'living in our own worlds' inside pods and receiving deep support through the process. They highlight the 'love involved in the whole process' from the staff they met to the food they were served.
