The interview
What was your life like prior to attending 40 Years of Zen?
Prior to 40 Years of Zen, I wasn't even looking to the future because I was so stuck in the past. My life was pretty miserable, actually. I felt very stuck just kind of ruminating on the past and what was and how can I get back there and just not really looking forward. Everything that mattered to me—my relationships, my health, my family—felt really difficult.
What did you appreciate most about the program?
What made me appreciate the program the most would be all of the people and the process. I was actually really surprised by this process, but I came to really appreciate it because without it, I wouldn't have had the breakthrough.
What shifted for you after going through the program?
What shifted for me was really this peace. Having peace with the past, having peace with the people in my life, having peace with myself, like, forgiving all the different things and being able to have that peace so that I could no longer be bound to it.
How do you feel physically and emotionally now?
I feel like already that I feel healthier. I feel more, have more energy. Like at the end of the program, I just realized, wow, it's like I feel so much lighter. I have so much more hope and excitement for life that I didn't have prior.
What are you most excited about moving forward?
I'm just really excited about what's to come and what I will create. I feel like I just have everything, like new motivation, new eyes, new insights, new everything to just really just move forward and create the life that I want to live.
What is your biggest takeaway from this experience?
The biggest takeaway is that I can live and create my life as I want it, that I don't need to be tied to things of the past. This program just allowed me to even gain the awareness that this stuff actually matters, like resolving stuff of the past. The past does become roadblocks for the future if you don't actually remove them.
