James Young hired Geobear to address foundation settlement at his Claygate home caused by dense clay soil. Geobear completed the resin underpinning in just one day, finishing by 2:00 PM. The project was executed within five weeks of instruction, successfully resolving structural cracks and making a front door that was previously stuck easy to close.

The interview

Can you introduce yourself and your property?

My name's James. I'm from the UK and have lived in London, but for the last few years I've been living in Sydney. I work as an auditor. We've owned our property for 10 years. Our property in the UK is in a village called Claygate. So needless to say, the ground is predominantly very dense clay.

What issues were you experiencing with your home?

Every time there's a hot summer, you would notice something like the door wouldn't close as easily, or you'd get these hairline plaster board cracks, and that kind of built up over a few years. So the front door just would not close. It was very difficult to close and you'd get more cracks, and that was concerning.

How did you go about finding a solution and why did you choose Geobear?

We asked Geobear to come out and help us. I was worried about subsidence. We asked Geobear and we asked a couple of other companies as well. We had some doomsday opinions that you've, you know, 'Full on subsidence. You need to come in and get full on underpinning.' And we had some other more balanced views. Geobear the whole way through were really responsive, really easy to get in contact with, and very personable. The professionalism and quality of work is what swung it for me.

What was the timeline from your first contact to the work being done?

I believe this was late May, early June that I first reached out to them. I was, in my mind, resigned to months on a wait list. But I think it was Craig that I spoke to was very transparent, said, 'Look, busy at the moment, but we could probably get you within six to eight weeks.' The work from instruction through to them actually executing against it, I think it was remarkably quick. I think it was like four or five weeks.

What was the experience like on the day the work was performed?

In the lead up they said it would only be half a day to a day. They turned up and everything sort of as expected occurred. They had people come in and check for piping so they're not going to inject through any gas or water pipe work. Then the Geobear contractors who were doing the actual resin underpinning came in and did their bit. They were able to demonstrate and explain what they were doing and why. I think they were wrapped up by two o'clock.

How would you describe your interaction with the Geobear staff?

My first person to person contact was with a gentleman named Craig. Very professional, empathetic. Demonstrated that he understood our problem and, as a consumer, that's all I cared about. He had clearly done his research. He gave me time to explain my problem, what I thought it was, and what was causing it. He seemed to care, and that due care and attention went a hell of a long way to then give me comfort.

What was the final outcome of the project?

The overall experience was positive. The work speaks for itself, and that, ultimately, those are the outcomes I was looking for. So really happy with the outcome.

Frequently asked

Is there a long waitlist for Geobear foundation repairs?

James Young was initially resigned to months on a waitlist due to a busy summer season. However, Geobear was transparent about their schedule and completed the work within four to five weeks of instruction.

How disruptive is the Geobear resin underpinning process?

The process is highly efficient and non-disruptive compared to traditional methods. James noted that the team arrived, checked for utility pipes, injected the resin, and was completely finished by 2:00 PM on the same day.

Can I trust Geobear's assessment of subsidence?

James, who describes himself as not the most trusting person, felt reassured by Geobear's balanced view and professionalism. He appreciated that their representative, Craig, did his research and didn't just deliver a sales pitch, providing confidence through third-party reviews and clear explanations.

The overall experience was positive. So the work speaks for itself, and that, u-ultimately, those are the outcomes I was looking for. So really happy with the outcome. My name's James. Uh, I'm from the UK and have lived in London, but for the last few years I've been living in Sydney. I work as an auditor. We've owned our property for 10 years. Our property in the UK is in a village called Claygate. So needless to say, the ground is predominantly very dense, um, clay. And for the most part, um, no problems whatsoever. Every time there's a hot summer, you would notice something like the door wouldn't close as easily, or you'd get these hairline plaster board cracks, and that kind of built up over a few years. So the front door just would not close. It was very difficult to close and you'd get more cracks, and that was concerning. So we were worried. Um, we asked Geobear to come out and help us. I was worried about subsidence. You know, our first port of call was to get some professionals out to give us an opinion, so we, we asked Geobear and we asked a couple of other companies as well. So we had some doomsday opinions that you've, you know, "Full on subsidence. You need to come in and get full on underpinning." And we had some other more balanced views that, "Hey, it's probably not subsidence." We needed and wanted a range of opinions to make sure that w-what we were being told could be validated. I'll put my hands up and go, "I'm not the most trusting of person." And so online presence, independent reviews, confidence that can be given to me by third parties goes a long way. So look, Geobear the whole way through, really responsive, really to get in contact with, um, very personable individuals that I met with. Lots of people kind of commenting on the, you know, the professionalism and the quality of work that was done. So that's what swung it for me. I believe this was late May, early June that I first reached out to them, I believe. And again, this was the start of a very hot summer, in which again, I, I doubt I was the only one. So I was, in my mind, resigned to months on a wait list. I know getting access to good quality builders can often have a long wait list or any sort of trades persons. But I think it was Craig that I spoke to was very transparent, said, "Look, yes, busy at the moment, but we could probably get you with- in within six to eight weeks." The work from, from instruction through to them actually executing against it, I, I think it was remarkably quick. I think it was like four or five weeks, and so that was reassuring for me as a sort of consumer, 'cause I was, I was worried about my home. Um, one of the considerations of who I picked was turnaround time. Geobear came out four or five weeks, I think it was. Very, very quick. So the... In the lead up they said it would only be half a day to a day. Um, they turned up. Um, everything sort of as expected occurred. So they had the people come in and check for piping and, you know, that if they're about to dig and inject into the ground, they're not going to do it through any sort of gas or water pipe work. And so they, they came in, they did their bit. And then I think the Geobear contractors who were doing the actual resin underpinning then came in and did their bit afterwards. A lot of the engagement was virtual, and so clearly there were a few live adjustments that had to be made there and then. Full reassurance. I had full confidence that they were doing the right thing. Um, they were able to demonstrate and explain, you know, what they were doing, why they were doing it, and where they would do it. They talked us through it. As I say, it was reassuring and it were quick. I think they were wrapped up by, you know, two o'clock. If you're thinking about working with Geobear, look, I, I, I would recommend them. Professional, clear advice, really down to earth. You know, my first contact, person to person contact that wasn't over email, was with a gentleman named Craig. Very professional, empathetic. Demonstrated that he understood our problem and, you know, as a consumer, that's all I, that's all I cared about. I don't want to thrown... I don't want a bunch of technical things thrown at me. I, I want to know that you understand my problem. He had clearly done his research. He gave me time to explain my problem, what I thought it was, what, what was causing it. That was actually reassuring. He didn't just turn up. This wasn't just another sales pitch. Um, he seemed to care, and that due care and attention and advanced pre-work that he put into th- into that session went a hell of a long way to then give me comfort.
