The interview
Why should someone choose to come to 40 Years of Zen?
The biggest reason that I would share with someone that they should come to 40 Years of Zen is that you really can't know what's inside until you really go looking and I had to look pretty deep. But I found some things that really needed me, needed my acknowledgement and my love and so I just encourage anyone—no matter where you think you are—go look inside and I think 40 Years of Zen is a great place to do it.
What tools and support does the program provide?
The right amount of tools and support, knowledge and technology, delicious food and supplements. Just an amazing body of research behind this whole thing so it's really easy to feel supported here. It's an easier place to look that would be my main advice.
What specific emotional challenges did you address during your week?
I worked through a lot of shame this week. Shame that I didn't realize I was holding on to and so I'd like to shift that into wholeness and freedom and, on top of that, abundance. I worked through a lot of things that I didn't know were there with my parents. Fear of losing them, some fears that were sort of modeled by them and I just want to shift that, it's okay to be afraid and to accept that part of me.
What was your biggest takeaway from the experience?
My biggest takeaway was just to keep scraping. I've been doing a lot of work for several years now and just to remember that it's a journey of healing, there's no destination, there's no top of the mountain. There's only the journey to and through. And so no matter how good or how not good I think I have it, the goal is just to keep going, keep loving and keep expanding.
Was there anything about the program that surprised you?
I didn't expect it to be so much internal work and by internal I mean emotional. Of course expected that we would be monitoring and improving the brain. I wasn't sure that it was going to be related so much to like past personal history, trauma and forgiveness work which I was delightfully surprised for that.
