“He's the one who really helped us get the product, what I would call shelf ready, and ready for mass sales.”
“You just use the people that have the reputation and the systems already built out so that I can produce faster and focus more on sales as opposed to manufacturing.”
The interview
Who are you and what is your company?
My name is Anthony Metzger, and my company is called GlowPro Golf. We actually invented a golf training aid specifically designed to help golfers become better at putting. And so the entire company right now is just a one product company, and it's that invention that we came up with.
What was the state of your product before working with GO Get Made?
Before GoGetMade, we launched the product. It was a prototype we had made in the garage, and we launched it at the PGA Show down in Orlando, Florida, which is like the biggest golf convention in the world. We were sitting there at our booth showing people our prototype that we had just made in the garage.
How did you first connect with the GO Get Made team?
That's when Eric with GoGetMade walked by, saw what we were doing, really liked the product. We had a really nice conversation. From there, we decided to actually work with him, and he's the one who really helped us get the product, what I would call shelf ready, and ready for mass sales.
Did you have any hesitations about working with them?
The hesitation was just the fact that you've met somebody, and now you're trusting them to do something that's pretty significant in your business. But we had a lot of conversations with Eric and with his team at GoGetMade, a lot of back and forth. We built a good rapport with them, and we decided we're gonna trust them and give them a shot, and they delivered.
What specific improvements did they make to your product?
The product he was able to develop with his team was a lot better than the product we were able to make ourself. He made huge improvements to our laser. He made huge improvements to our pad, and even the packaging. It's been significant as far as, like, that homemade product to something that soon will be sitting on the shelves of Dick's Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy.
How has the production process evolved over multiple orders?
We've done three orders with them now. Our first order, the product was a step up from what we had done before from the garage, but there was still improvements we wanted. Eric and them were very helpful in actually hearing our ideas. Then the second order we made with them, they had solved all those issues. This third batch that's actually in production right now is even gonna be better than the last one.
Why do you prefer using GO Get Made over going directly to overseas manufacturers?
Personally, a lot of people I think just go straight to Asia to get their manufacturing done and talk directly to manufacturers. To me, that was something I just wasn't comfortable doing. I'd rather be able to talk to somebody in English here in the U.S. who's already got those relationships built out, who's spent so much time building that trust and that network.
Frequently asked
Is it risky to trust an outside firm with my product manufacturing?
Anthony Metzger acknowledged that trusting someone with a significant part of your business is a hurdle, but after building rapport through back-and-forth conversations with Eric and the GO Get Made team, he found they delivered on every promise.
Can GO Get Made help with product packaging design?
Yes. Anthony Metzger noted that GO Get Made used their deep network to put him in touch with a specialist who created a 'beautiful packaging design' that he couldn't have developed on his own.
How does GO Get Made handle product quality improvements?
According to Metzger, the team is highly responsive to feedback; after the first order, they heard his ideas for improvements and solved all identified issues by the second production run.
