The interview

What is your overall impression of the Jen Hill Tribe community?

It's social entrepreneurs, lots of aligned values, people who have legitimate experience in life, in business, and seem proactive and willing to help. This is probably the best community that I've been a part of, that I've been looking for a long time.

What has been the most impactful aspect of the community for you so far?

Most impactful for me is the quality and caliber of people that I've met so far, and specifically, it's the amount of people that have a certain level of experience, a certain set of values, and also a certain demeanor in terms of how they interact with me. There's a high level of generosity and a high level of proactiveness in listening that is generally absent in other communities.

How long have you been looking for a community like this?

I think I've been on the casual lookout for at least a decade. I used to be part of another social entrepreneurship community that folded about 10 years ago, and I've joined maybe four or five other communities over the past few years, and none of them quite fit the mark.

What was your first impression of Jennifer Hill?

Hopping on that first call with Jen and getting a sense of her vibe and the warmth combined with that. The first impression was, 'This is a warm person. This is a pretty sharp intellectual person as well.'

What was your experience attending the member calls?

I observed how Jen facilitates, dropping in with a meditation, opening with that, looping every member in, creating space to connect people with each other, and having breakout groups. Having about 40 people show up to the very first call and seeing the general warmth and responsiveness of everyone made it really exciting.

How has your experience with the men in this community differed from your usual business interactions?

My experience with meeting men in business is they tend to not be that curious and are more willing to talk about themselves. Out of maybe 15 Jen Hill Tribe one-on-ones that I've had, most of them actually are with men, and most of them have taken a proactive interest in what I'm doing and have offered to support. Feeling supported by other men has been the most surprising variable.

How does the onboarding and introduction process work?

The moment that I joined and she added me to the WhatsApp group, she immediately wrote the intro of me and actively tagged people that she thought would be a good fit. There's not a lot of active energy from the creators of most communities to actively connect you, so I think that level of curation is frankly unprecedented.

It's social entrepreneurs, lots of aligned values, people who have legitimate experience in life, in business, and seem proactive and willing to help, and general warm openness from basically everyone that I've met. This is probably the best community that I've been a part of, that I've been looking for a long time. My name is Brandon. I live in San Jose, and I am the founder of Genius of You. Most impactful for me is the quality and caliber of people that I've met so far, and specifically, it's the amount of people that have a certain level of experience, a certain set of values, and also a certain demeanor in terms of how they interact with me. There's a high level of generosity. There's a high level of proactiveness in listening. Most other communities I've ever been a part of is just generally absent. So that combination has had the most impact in how I feel about the community and my excitement about the community. I think I've been on the casual lookout for at least a decade. I used to be part of another social entrepreneurship community, and I was the head of a local chapter there. But that ended up folding about 10 years ago, and so ever since then, I've always been on the lookout for an equivalent of that. And I've joined maybe four or five other communities over the past few years, and none of them quite fit the mark. And in terms of what I'm actually looking for is people who are operating on similar values in terms of life and business, just looking for a community. And per Jen Hill Tribe, they capture the essence of tribe, the specific kind of tribe that I'm looking for. Hopping on that first call with Jen and getting a sense of her vibe and the warmth combined with that. So the first impression was, "This is a warm person. This is a pretty sharp intellectual person as well." So that was one touch point. The second touch point would be joining the member call where they welcome new members and just observing and s- witnessing and experiencing how Jen facilitates, dropping in with a meditation, opening with that, looping every member in, creating space to connect people with each other, having breakout groups, and just the general warmth and responsiveness of everyone in the community that was in the call. And having about 40 people show up to the very first call, all of that created this sense of Jen has really assembled a group of really fantastic people, and that made it really exciting. And then after attending a few more events, I'm like, "Nope, that was not a one-off. That is Jen. That is this community. This is fantastic." And then I started telling people about it. My experience with meeting men in business and entrepreneurship is they tend to not be that curious. They tend to be much more willing, on average, to talk about themselves and not really take that much of a proactive interest in other people. Out of maybe 15 Jen Hill Tribe one-on-ones that I've had, most of them actually are with men, and most of them have taken a proactive interest in what I'm doing and have offered to support. And that's something that, you know, I do pretty consistently with my community and people that I meet in general. But feeling supported by other men and having other men that I'm like, "Wow, this is a good guy," I don't experience that a lot. And so that's, for me, has been the most surprising variable. The moment that I joined and she added me to the WhatsApp group, she immediately-- She wrote the intro of me, and she actively tagged people that she thought would be a good fit. And just seeing that Jen regularly does that, I think that adds another data point of how thoughtful and intentional she is about what she's trying to create. You don't see that in other communities. Most communities, you just join, and then you're kind of just there, and it's kind of up to you to make noise, be known, and reach out to people. There's not a lot of active energy from the creators or founders of most communities to actively connect you to other people. And so I think that level of curation is frankly unprecedented. Overall, the way Jen shows up and thoughtfully curates and connects people, there's just very few people that are doing that and doing that at a very high level. Just try this. Give it a shot, and it might be one of the best decisions you make.
