The interview

What was your health situation before working with Dr. Wilcox?

Before working with Wise Medicine, I was experiencing a huge amount of brain fog. I had knee pain where I could barely walk up and down stairs or even sometimes on flat surfaces. I also had plantar fasciitis and I could barely use my foot; I couldn't wear heels anymore.

How was your health affecting your professional life?

I was working at a high level in different organizations doing project management work which takes a lot of brain power. I was coming out of meetings and writing notes and I literally would look at my notes and not remember anything that had happened in the meeting or be able to understand what my notes meant.

What happened when you sought help from conventional doctors?

I went to a doctor here in Canada and she said, 'you're just getting older.' At the time I was 54 and I went, 'this can't be my life.' I was told for the brain fog that I was going through menopause, but that doesn't mean I can't think.

What other treatments had you tried previously?

For my knee pain, I was doing physio, which helped a bit, but it really didn't move the needle as much as I wanted to. For the plantar fasciitis, I was given orthotics and I thought, well, that's not making it better; it's just making it more comfortable when I put on shoes.

What surprised you about the treatment process at Wise Medicine?

What surprised me the most was that there were so many options and things that I could change where I felt like I was actively involved. There was ozone therapy, AI treatments, acupuncture, change in diet, plant juices, and hormone therapy. All those things came together in this beautiful way.

How has your life changed since completing the program?

Life has changed; it's been amazing. I felt like I was young again. My career was coming to a grinding halt, but it put me in such a good place that I started my own business and I am so busy and active traveling all over the place. I hike, I camp, and I travel. One of my challenges was I had Lyme disease and now I actually, two months of the year, go live in the woods.

Frequently asked

Can integrative medicine help with severe brain fog and memory loss?

Yes. Joanne Wells reported that after being unable to remember meetings or understand her own notes, Dr. Wilcox's root-cause approach restored her 'brain power' to the point where she successfully started her own business.

Is chronic joint pain just a normal part of aging?

Joanne Wells was told by previous doctors that her knee pain and plantar fasciitis were just signs of aging at 54. However, through Wise Medicine's integrated treatments, she regained her ability to hike and travel without pain.

What is the patient experience like at Wise Medicine?

Joanne describes Dr. Wilcox as kind and a good listener. She felt 'actively involved' in her own healing process rather than just being a passive recipient of symptomatic treatments.

Speaker 0: I have happily recommended Doctor. Wilcox and Wise Medicine to a number of people because people can see the results. I can probably count on two hands how many people I've recommended. Great group that work there. Doctor. Wilcox is very kind and listens well, and you need that. My name is Joanne Wells, and I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Before working with Wise Medicine with Doctor. Wilcox, I was experiencing a huge amount of brain fog. I had knee pain where I could barely walk up and down stairs or even sometimes on flat surfaces. And I also had plantar fasciitis and I could barely use my foot. I couldn't wear heels anymore. And those were the type of things that were bothering me the most. What made me go to Doctor. Wilcox in Wise Medicine was I was working at a high level in different organizations at the time and I was doing project management work which takes a lot of brain power. And I was coming out of meetings and writing notes and I literally would look at my notes and not remember anything that had happened in the meeting or be able to understand what my notes meant. I went to a doctor here in Canada and I said something's wrong. This is what's happening between the brain fog, and the knee pain, foot pain, all that. And she said, you're just getting older. At the time I was 54 and I went, this can't be my life. This is not who I am. And decided to look for an alternative. And that's when I tracked down Doctor. Wilcox and life has changed. It's been amazing. Really what drove me there was I wanted to find the root cause. I knew that I was being treated for symptoms, but I wasn't being treated for the root cause. So things that I tried in the past that didn't work for me were as far as the brain fog, I was told that I was going through menopause. It was like, no, that doesn't mean I can't think. And for my knee pain, I was doing physio, which helped a bit, but it really didn't move the needle as much as I wanted to. And for the plantar fasciitis, I was given orthotics and I thought, well, that's not making it better. It's just making it when I put on shoes more comfortable. So I wanted to get to the root cause. What surprised me the most working with Doctor. Wilcox and Wise Medicine was that there was so many options and things that I could change where I felt like I was actively involved in helping myself to get better as well as him giving me things that could help me. So, you know, there was ozone therapy, there was AI treatments, there was acupuncture, there was change in diet, there was, you know, plant juices and all those things came together in this beautiful way. Hormone therapy too, that I did all those things and at the end of the day I felt like I was young again. Like I didn't just go back to being better. I went back to feeling really youthful and young. And I'm so appreciative of that because really my career was coming to a grinding halt because of my health and my brain. And it just put me in such a good place that I started my own business and I am so busy and so active traveling all over the place which are all things that I couldn't have continued on if I didn't do something about it. So I felt like I was participating as well as being taken care of, which was amazing. What I'm doing differently now that I wasn't able to do before the program is getting out and being physical, like not only the brain power that I have now, which is amazing, but also just getting out walking. I hike, I camp, I travel. And these are all things that were coming to a grinding halt when my body was breaking down. One of my challenges was I had Lyme disease and now I actually, two months of the year, go live in the woods. I'm able to just live my life and do whatever I want and I love it.
