Lisa Floyd turned to Elliott Feldman Law Group to transition from having no will at age 70 to a fully organized estate plan. The interview
What led you to seek out estate planning services at this time?
I've been wanting to do a will. I kind of have put it off. I'm 70 years old now and I've been putting off doing the will and I didn't have enough information. I think I found it on Facebook where you were having an online seminar that I could join.
What was your experience with the initial workshop?
I sat there and I listened for it. I think it maybe lasted a half an hour. Listened through it. Was really interested in it. Didn't make any kind of commitments because I found you on Facebook. I had to get off and I did all my little research online to find out where y'all were from, how long you've been in business, and read the reviews.
What was the specific 'aha moment' that made you schedule a call?
The aha moment when I decided to schedule the call and go through with the call was when he was talking about the trust and how I could protect my money for my kids so it would be protected for them. So anything that happened to them, any lawsuits, any divorces, any I don't know what, the money was theirs and no one else could touch it.
What was the best part of working with the firm?
The best part of working with Elliot Feldman at the law firm was the organizational part of the process. It started out with the seminar, then our initial phone call where everything was explained—how it worked, the pricing, and how it would work going forward. Then they set up times for each individual process.
How did the firm handle communication and scheduling?
Before each process, they spoke to you about it. You had plenty of time to get ready. They scheduled the time, a day or two before. They said, 'okay, this is when it's gonna happen,' and the day it was supposed to happen, it happened. You got on the phone or you got online and you did that part of the process.
How long did the entire process take and how do you feel now?
I would say it probably took a few months from beginning to end, but it's such a relief now. I don't have to worry about it.
How flexible was the firm when your needs or circumstances changed?
I was able to change my answers. I was like two-thirds of the way finished at one point and changed my trust in them. So we started working back on that. And then towards the end, I became sick and I needed the information sent to my trustees and they did that. Even though the process wasn't completely finalized, the information was given to my trustees so they'd have everything that they needed.
What would you say to someone who is hesitant about working with the firm?
I listened to the seminar first before I even spoke to anybody online. That gave me time to do my Google research to see what I could find. I like what I saw and just take the process a step at a time. You're not stuck with going with the law firm right there at the beginning. There's no pressure at all.
Frequently asked
Is Elliott Feldman Law Group a legitimate firm if I found them on Facebook?
Lisa Floyd initially had concerns because she found the firm via a Facebook ad. She resolved this by attending their 30-minute online seminar and conducting independent research on their business history and reviews before committing.
Can I change my mind during the estate planning process?
Yes; Lisa Floyd noted that she was able to change her answers and modify her trust even when she was two-thirds of the way through the process, describing the firm as very easy to work with.
What happens if I have a health emergency before my trust is finalized?
When Lisa became ill during the process, the firm proactively sent necessary information to her trustees so they would have what they needed even though the plan wasn't completely finalized.
