The interview

Who are you and what do you do?

Hi, I'm Amber Nichols. I'm from Austin, Texas and I'm a music teacher and entrepreneur.

What is the atmosphere like at Upgrade Labs 5th St?

I just feel like it's family here. Every time I come everyone is so excited to help you upgrade and learn the newest technology to improve your health span.

How do the staff assist you during your visits?

Just getting help from the biohacker technicians really helps you understand in what order to do kind of, like, your thing that day. If you want to leave calm or if you want to leave refreshed, they really are able to walk you through all the tech so that you leave in the way that you want to leave.

How does the experience differ based on the time of day you visit?

If you're coming in the morning, maybe you want to leave energized. If you're coming in the evening maybe you just like feel, wind down after a long day. They just take such excellent care of you when you come here.

What led you to seek out a physical location for biohacking?

If you just read Dave's books, you're like, 'oh there's a place I can go to just get in depth for all the things?' and you don't feel like you're—I mean, DIY is amazing but then you come here and it's like, everybody's DIY-ing and you're picking up tips and tricks and you're just drawn to it.

What specific biohacking practice has been most impactful for you?

Fasting is a huge one for me. Changed my life.

How would you describe the value proposition of the membership?

The thing I thought I was buying was a gym membership and what I'm getting is just holistic support for my well-being. I would say that joining The Lab is going to replace so many other things you're wasting money on, as trial and error.

What is the community and staff interaction like?

My experience working with Upgrade Labs is everybody's just so voraciously curious and ready to help you. And if they don't know an answer they're ready to just dive into any curiosity with you and it's just really generative and supportive.

Frequently asked

Is Upgrade Labs just another gym membership?

Amber Nichols initially thought she was buying a gym membership, but discovered she was actually receiving holistic support for her well-being and a supportive community of like-minded individuals.

How do I know which biohacking technologies to use first?

Amber explains that the biohacker technicians at Upgrade Labs walk you through the technology and help you understand the specific order of operations to achieve your desired state, whether that is leaving energized or calm.

Can I do biohacking at home instead of joining a lab?

While Amber acknowledges DIY is amazing, she found that joining The Lab replaced the money she was wasting on trial and error and provided a generative environment where experts help solve health curiosities.
