The interview

What were you struggling with before working with Jennifer Powter?

I was struggling with up and down yo-yo dieting. This really began in my late teens, early 20s. That's where I started to see the scale fluctuations. I'd lose weight in a dramatic, unhealthy way where I wasn't nourishing myself well, and then I would swing all the way to the other side of the pendulum and create chaos. I felt really hopeless about myself when I was at the highest weight I had ever been.

What other programs had you tried in the past?

The programs I've done in the past were Weight Watchers. That was my go-to. Being in those meetings and having to line up and get on a scale in front of people, the hyper importance around that scale number and that number I was chasing was exhausting.

How did you find Jennifer Powter and why did you trust her?

I knew her in my social circle and had friends and a doctor recommend her. What made me trust the Powter Weight Loss Academy and Jennifer was the fact that she understands the journey herself as well. She's coming not only from a scientific perspective, but from a mindset and emotional approach. I knew I was an emotional eater.

Did you have any hesitations before joining the program?

If there was something that made me hesitant, it was just the thought of was what I wanted truly possible? Because in the past, I had failed so many times, or I felt I hadn't really fully understood how I got back to regaining the weight over and over again. That yo-yo dieting cycle was strong.

What results have you achieved since starting the program?

Today I've lost 50 pounds. I told myself at the beginning of this journey I would never see 200 pounds on the scale again, and it's been three years of not seeing that number. My health and my weight do not take up mental or emotional space anymore.

What makes the Weight Loss Academy different from other approaches?

We're tackling the here and now. We're tackling where do you want to go, not where have you been. The reason why I feel this is sustainable and maintainable is because you are actually doing this in a way that pertains to your lifestyle. I think when we do diets and extreme measures, it's not the way we actually want to live for the rest of our life.

Why would you recommend this program to others?

I would recommend the Powter Weight Loss Academy because it's a sane, slow, sustainable approach. We're not the glamorous hare winning the race, we're the tortoise. We're not out to rush this process in a way that you're going to fail.

Frequently asked

Is permanent weight loss possible after failing multiple times?

Kelsey Pfister initially hesitated because she had failed so many times in the past and didn't understand why she kept regaining weight. She found success by trusting Jennifer Powter's approach, which focuses on the 'here and now' and lifestyle integration rather than extreme, unsustainable measures.

How does the Powter Weight Loss Academy differ from Weight Watchers?

Kelsey noted that traditional programs like Weight Watchers created 'exhausting' hyper-importance around scale numbers and public weigh-ins. Jennifer Powter’s program focuses on a scientific, mindset, and emotional approach that addresses the root causes of emotional eating.

Is the Powter Weight Loss Academy approach sustainable?

Yes, Kelsey describes it as a 'sane, slow, sustainable approach' that functions like the tortoise rather than the hare. She emphasizes that the program pertains to your actual lifestyle, making it maintainable for the rest of your life.

Before working with Jennifer Powter and the Powter Weight Loss Academy, I was struggling with up and down yo-yo dieting. This really began in my late teens, early 20s. That's where I started to see the scale fluctuations. Up down, up down, up down. I'd lose weight. I'd do it in a dramatic way, in an unhealthy way where I wasn't nourishing myself well. And then eventually I would get very tired of that scenario and I would swing all the way to the other side of the pendulum and create chaos. I felt really hopeless about myself when I was at the highest weight I had ever been. Getting dressed in the morning was difficult because nothing fit well. I found I was choosing items to hide myself. The programs I've done in the past were Weight Watchers. That was my go-to. Being in those meetings and having to line up and get on a scale in front of people, the hyper importance around that scale number and that number I was chasing was exhausting. So I found Jennifer Powter by knowing her in my social circle, knew who she was. I'd had some friends and a doctor recommend her in the past. And I came to Jennifer, obviously, as her client first. But as I was going through this weight loss journey and seeing my own success and knowing what was possible, I decided that I was ready to actually leave a previous career of mine and come work with Jennifer and work in her community and be part of this journey. What made me trust the Powter Weight Loss Academy and Jennifer was the fact that she understands the journey herself as well. And she's coming not only from a scientific perspective, but from a mindset and emotional approach. I knew I was an emotional eater. So, upon talking with Jennifer and understanding what her program had to offer, and being willing to understand that there is more to this than the eat less, workout more approach, that's what made me trust the process and trust that there would be success with this. If there was something that made me hesitant about coming into this type of program and working with Jennifer, it was just the thought of was what I wanted truly possible? Because in the past, I had failed so many times, or I felt I hadn't really fully understood how I got back to regaining the weight over and over again. That yo-yo dieting cycle, it was strong. What surprised me the most about working with Jennifer and starting off as her client and now in the role of director of client success is that we're all on a similar path. The weight loss struggles that I find women who we work with, myself included, are similar in a way that we've tried it all. We're super successful in a lot of areas of our life, but it's this one piece that we can't seem to get a handle on. Today I've lost 50 pounds. I told myself at the beginning of this journey I would never see 200 pounds on the scale again. And it's been three years of not seeing that number. Where I'm at now, since working with the academy is understanding that there's a power of choice here, that how I want to live my life matters, and I get to create that every day. My overall life has changed because I am now living in a world where my health and my weight do not take up mental, emotional space. What's different about the Weight Loss Academy is we're tackling the here and now. We're tackling where do you want to go? Not where have you been? The reason why I feel this is sustainable and maintainable is because you are actually doing this in a way that pertains to your lifestyle. I think when we do diets and extreme measures, it's not the way we actually want to live for the rest of our life. And the approach with the Academy how do you want to live the rest of your life. I would recommend the Powter Weight Loss Academy because it's a sane, slow, sustainable approach. We're not the glamorous hare winning the race, we're the tortoise. We're not out to rush this process in a way that you're going to fail.
