The interview

What was your lead generation process like before using Salezilla?

Our lead generation process was extremely manual. We had to build a lot of relationships with startup accelerators, VC firms, angel groups, and run paid media, which could get very expensive. It took a large amount of human effort to drive small amounts of leads that we hoped would convert.

What changes have you seen since transitioning to Salezilla?

We've been able to significantly increase the output of how many people we can contact and how many companies we're looking at. Our call volume has doubled, if not tripled, on a weekly basis. We went from generating 15 to 25 qualified leads weekly to now hitting 50 or 60, with Salezilla contributing 15 to 20 of those every week.

Why did you choose Salezilla over other similar companies?

We were really impressed with their automation and their ease of use. It's really not that much work for us to use their system. We just provide a little bit of email copy and do minor administrative work on the list end, but for the most part, they're sending us leads and doing the email outreach on our behalf.

How did Salezilla handle your specific compliance needs?

We are an extremely regulated company with financial licenses and registrations with FINRA and the SEC. Salezilla was really easy to work with in ensuring everything we sent out met our compliance protocols. They were very flexible and provided all the data we needed for reporting on who we reached out to and their responses.

What surprised you most about working with them?

The actual quality of companies that we were working with. We've worked with several cold outreach platforms and haven't been able to replicate the results we're seeing with Salezilla. They hit exactly our target market because we provide keywords and metrics, and they find companies we didn't even know about and hand them to us on a silver platter.

How has this impacted the efficiency of your sales team?

Our sales team is a lot more efficient. We do a lot less qualifying before getting on calls because we are confident the leads are the right companies at the right time. Instead of spending hours sifting through LinkedIn or databases, our team can focus on speaking with founders to see if we can help them successfully raise capital.

What is the overall return on investment you've seen?

Working with them for a little over two years at this point, we've got it in such a great system and a groove that we're now at a 400% ROI on the investment that we've made going into Salezilla.

Frequently asked

Can Salezilla handle strict financial compliance requirements?

Yes. Daniel Rosenthal noted that as a company regulated by FINRA and the SEC, their compliance team had concerns about language and targeting. Salezilla was flexible, providing necessary reporting and ensuring all outreach met strict compliance protocols.

How much manual effort does Salezilla require from the sales team?

Very little. Rosenthal stated that the team only needs to provide email copy and minor administrative work on lists; Salezilla handles the outreach, allowing the sales team to focus entirely on speaking with founders and closing deals.

How does Salezilla lead quality compare to other outreach platforms?

Rosenthal was surprised by the high quality, noting that Salezilla hits their target market exactly using specific keywords and metrics, delivering leads that other cold outreach platforms could not replicate.

Before using Salezilla, our lead generation process was extremely manual. We had to build a lot of relationships, which not only took time, but a large amount of human and man effort. So these were just building relationships with startup accelerators, VC Firms, Angel groups and then running some paid media, which could get very expensive. So we were very focused on driving small amounts of leads that we hope would convert. And now since transitioning to Salezilla, we've been able to significantly increase the output of how many people we can contact in a week, how many companies we're looking at. And our call volume has doubled, if not tripled, on a weekly basis since using Salezilla. We used to generate, on the marketing side anywhere from 15 to 20, maybe 25 qualified leads on a weekly basis. We're now hitting 50 qualified leads on a weekly 60. And Salezilla is contributing anywhere from 15 to 20 of those every single week. We have spoken with a lot of companies that do similar, but not quite what Salezilla does. For us, what we were really impressed with and kind of why we chose them is their automation and their ease of use. it's really not that much work for us to be able to use their system into their processes, really we just got to provide a little bit of email copy, do a little bit of administrative work on the list end. But for the most part, really they're sending us leads and they're doing most of the email outreach on our behalf. All our team really has to do is get on the call with the people that are replying and see if they're a good fit. We are an extremely regulated company in the sense that we have many financial licenses and registrations with FINRA and the SEC and our compliance team has a lot of concerns about who we're reaching out to, how we're reaching out to them, the language we're using, whether it's customized or not, and Salezilla is really easy to work with in ensuring that everything we sent out met our compliance protocols and they were able to provide us with any data we needed in terms of reporting and who we're reaching out to and the responses. So not every company can offer that compliance handholding, and they were very flexible and willing to help us out. If there's one thing that surprised me about working with Salezilla, it's the actual quality of companies that we were working with. We've worked with several cold outreach platforms similar to Salezilla, some a little bit different, and we just haven't been able to find the results or replicate the ones like we're seeing with Salezilla. For us, they hit exactly our target market because we're able to provide them with a few keywords, a few metrics, and a few criteria. They go out and find all the companies that we've either been trying to get a hold of or haven't even known about, and they just hand them to us on a silver platter. Since starting to work with Salezilla, I think the biggest thing we've seen is that our sales team is a lot more efficient. We have to do a lot less qualifying before getting on calls because we are very confident that the leads they're sending us are the right companies at the right time, in the right place. And so instead of spending hours sifting through LinkedIn or sifting through databases to find great companies, they're really just delivered to us. And now our team can focus on speaking with founders, seeing are they the right fit, can we help them successfully raise capital? Or if not, can we recircle back in six months and just maintain that relationship. Giving your sales team the opportunity to really focus on their job, which is selling and allowing a platform like Salezilla to kind of do the dirty work, if you will, of sending those emails and getting those calls booked for you. But now working with them for almost two or a little over two years at this point, we've got it in such a great system and a groove that we're now at a 400% ROI on the investment that we've made going into Salezilla. My name is Daniel Rosenthal and I'm the Senior Partner Shifts Manager at StartEngine, based in Los Angeles, California.
