The interview
Can you introduce yourself and your role?
My name is Angelaleah Mwangi. I am based in Nairobi, Kenya. I support an executive who is a real estate managing owner and broker for her own real estate brokerage in Indiana.
What was your professional background before joining Atlas?
Before I joined Atlas, I was working freelance as a virtual assistant, but before that I had spent about 10 plus years working as an executive admin, personal assistant, and office administrator in physical companies in Nairobi, Kenya.
Why did you choose to move to Atlas Assistants?
I specifically chose to move to Atlas because I wanted a bit more flexibility in my time and then I also wanted a better paying role as well as an opportunity to just expand my knowledge base and my skill set.
How has the AI training impacted your work?
The AI training has been one of the better opportunities in the sense that it has allowed me to not only better support my executive, but to also be a lot more aware of what's out there that can make systems work easier. A lot of the mundane tasks I used to have to do, I can now automate and spend more time supporting and being there for my executive.
How did you transition into a 'strategic partner' role?
It started with training about drafting emails in advance. I look at the inbox, read them, and respond in advance so the executive just cleans them up or sends them. It's gotten to the point where my executive will literally not write her own emails; she prefers that I write in her tone rather than she writes it herself.
What specific systems or methodologies have you learned?
Atlas provided training about AI, Inbox Zero, and Second Brain. These have opened me up to a whole new world and a whole new set of opportunities. The VA world is a lot bigger and deeper than I initially thought.
How has your life changed since joining the company?
So many wonderful things. The training and compensation have given me a lot of financial stability and security. If I had to go back to working for a physical company without these systems in place, I would feel like a fish out of water.
What would you say to an executive considering Atlas?
I recommend you onboard yourself with Atlas as soon as you can because in terms of cost it will be cheaper for you than hiring a physical assistant. You'll get someone who understands you and the business you run, and they offer training for both the executive and the assistant to ensure the relationship is seamless.
Frequently asked
Is Atlas Assistants better than working as a freelance virtual assistant?
Yes, Angelaleah Mwangi noted that moving from freelance work to Atlas provided better compensation, financial stability, and significantly more advanced training opportunities in AI and systems management.
How does Atlas Assistants help with executive email management?
Atlas trains assistants to draft emails in advance by learning the executive's specific tone and voice. Angelaleah reports her executive now prefers her to write the initial drafts rather than writing them herself.
Can an offshore assistant handle high-level strategic tasks?
According to Angelaleah, Atlas training allows assistants to move beyond mundane tasks to become strategic partners who handle content creation and complex systems, making them feel like a 'fish out of water' without these advanced tools.
