The interview
What is your background and what attracted you to this treatment?
My name is Asuquo Edem. I'm originally from Nigeria, now residing in South Carolina, and I am a retired therapist with the corrections department. The technique is what attracted me. The idea of the fact that you have to go back and look at the main cause of my sickness is a very enticing approach.
How do you feel about the personalized approach to your health?
I'm excited about it. It gives me hope that if they can find out what is really my problem, they can now personalize my treatments to address my main problems. I was surprised because I didn't know that my guts could be related to my sickness and then my lifestyle can also affect my progress.
What has your experience been with the coaching and mindset programs?
The coaching programs are very good; they have a variety of them, like a cookie jar where you reach out and pick the one you like. The balance board has been very helpful, and the mindset program is very good if you pay attention and apply what you are taught.
Has your perspective on recovery changed since starting?
Something shifted for me; it blew my mind. I'm very optimistic because the toolkit has already detected my thoughts in a different direction. I am keeping my mind focused intentionally on the fact that I am recovering and that something good is coming my way.
What are your expectations for your upcoming visit to the clinic?
I'm looking forward to the next two weeks when I come over to Utah. I hope to go through the treatment with hope. I'm very sure that the results they got from the test kit will lead to my treatment and be fundamental to the process.
How would you describe the staff and Dr. Hegel?
They try to instill hope and faith in us and encourage us to continue doing what we are doing. Dr. Hegel is a very talented person, very, very talented. I am sure that his labor will not be in vain and whatever he discovers to be used in helping us will work.
Frequently asked

Is there a community aspect to the bVital program?
Yes, Asuquo notes that the community is good because it provides the 'idea of the fact that you are not alone.' He states that this shared experience helps patients develop the courage needed for their recovery journey.
What lifestyle changes does bVital recommend?
Asuquo highlights that the program emphasizes 'eating right' and 'keeping your mind focused intentionally on the fact that you are recovering.' He also stresses the importance of movement, noting that with their exercises, 'it’s either you use it, or you lose it.'
