The interview

What was life like before working with Good Beginnings?

It was incredibly difficult for my son to get in his bed at night, climb up the stairs, and get in and out of the shower in a way that we could help him but not hurt ourselves and not hurt him. My life was more complicated and I was driving a lot further, all the way from Arlington to Springfield, Virginia, to get therapy.

What specific improvements have you seen in your son's mobility?

Slow and steady, they showed us what to do, and now he can climb into his bed without anybody assisting him. He's getting better and better at getting in and out of the car as well. He can walk up the stairs and do a bunch of things now all because of Good Beginnings and their physical therapists.

What made you trust the team at Good Beginnings?

The therapists have all been extremely kind and competent. They know what they're doing. I trust them implicitly, and they are the best that I've seen in this area. They hire the best people and treat you as human beings and as a family unit.

How has the clinic helped with the administrative side of care?

It was extremely important and helpful that Good Beginnings takes our insurance and does all the legwork as far as submitting because if it was up to me to do it, we wouldn't be going to therapy.

How has the therapy impacted your family's daily schedule?

The impact has been pretty incredible. They always worked with me to get the best appointment time for our family, and we've been able to continue to see them for the last 10 years because of the fact that they work with our schedules.

What was the benefit of having therapists come into your home?

They've been able to come and do therapy sessions inside the house. That was crucial and critical for us because there's some problem-solving that we need to do just to go about our daily lives. To have someone be able to come in, see what the problem is, and help figure out a motor plan has just been crucial.

Frequently asked

Is it difficult to manage insurance for pediatric therapy?

Margie Johnston noted that Good Beginnings handles all the legwork regarding insurance submissions. She stated that if she had to manage the paperwork herself, they likely wouldn't have been able to continue therapy.

Can pediatric physical therapy be done at home?

Yes, Margie highlighted that Good Beginnings provided therapy sessions inside their house. This was critical for problem-solving daily tasks like getting in and out of the shower and climbing stairs in their specific home environment.

How do I find a pediatric therapist closer to Arlington, VA?

Margie previously drove from Arlington to Springfield for services until finding Good Beginnings. She switched both her children to their care because they offered early intervention and convenient scheduling within the Arlington area.
