The interview

What was the most helpful aspect of the HomeCareSales program?

The one thing that really helped me in the field was really just opening up my referral sources from working with the program and some of the recommendations that I had not previously considered.

What is your professional background and current role?

My name is Robyn Foley. I am the business development manager with AccuCare and I've been in the home care sales role for about seven years.

What challenges were you facing before starting the training?

Some of the areas that I found challenging were really just trying to figure out new referral sources since I was coming from a different agency. I was coming from a Medicaid agency to private duty, and my referral sources did not really transfer over.

What was your initial reaction when your Director of Operations suggested the program?

Because I've been in the industry for quite some time, I really did not think that I needed this program. So I was very hesitant. But I'm very glad that I opened up to the possibilities; after the first couple of sessions, I realized that I could benefit from a lot of the information.

What specific results have you achieved since completing the training?

The goal of course was to get three new referral sources and I have done that and from those referral sources I have received referrals. It was from the hospice contact that it was encouraged for me to partner with as well as looking more into the hospital relationship.

How did the program help you with difficult or stagnant accounts?

It was recommended to double back on some of those accounts that I wasn't really able to penetrate. In doing that, I was able to really forge a relationship with a new social worker at an account where the previous social worker gave me no leverage. I was able to schedule a lunch with them and I see possibilities in the foreseeable future.

What advice would you give to other experienced sales professionals considering this program?

I would say to those people that are in my position that have a lot of experience to just be open-minded because you are guaranteed to come away with some really good nuggets that you didn't think that you were going to be able to get.

Frequently asked

Does an experienced home care sales rep need professional training?

Robyn Foley initially felt she did not need the program because she had been in the industry for seven years. However, she found that being open-minded allowed her to gain 'nuggets' of information that helped her penetrate accounts she previously couldn't reach.
