The interview
What was your life like before you started working with Greg at Qiveda?
I was on a quest of 15 years of personal development, including physical exercises, intuitive body connection, and 15 years of almost daily meditation. I was also struggling with lots of back pain that I thought I would just have to deal with for the rest of my life.
What made you decide to say yes to Qigong coaching?
It was a conversation I had with one of Greg's students at a dinner. We connected energetically, and after that conversation, I knew I had to sign up. When I realized you could work on your mental, physical, and energetic state all in the same practice, I was highly motivated.
How has your meditation practice changed since starting Qiveda?
I'm about seven months into my journey, and I have for the most part adopted my meditation practice to be my Qigong practice. Moving as a meditation is so much more enjoyable for me than just a sitting practice, and it took my level of present-moment awareness to the next level.
What happened to the chronic back pain you mentioned?
I had been forewarned that the pain would go away, but I didn't really believe it. Then, about three months into the practice, I realized the pain was gone. I've done acupuncture, physical therapy, and ozone to try to relieve this for at least a decade, but this practice actually changed my body physically.
How does this practice affect your professional life as a realtor?
I'm a busy realtor in the deal business where things are constantly falling apart or coming together. There are days where I should be stressed out, but I'm not. It has been a complete game-changer for my stress levels and awareness in real life.
What can you do now that you couldn't do before?
Little things like playing football with my eight-year-old son. Before, if he threw a low catch, I would feel weakness and pain in my hips and lower back when bending over. Now I can literally reach down, grab the football, pop back up, and run with him.
Why would you recommend Greg as a coach specifically?
Having a personal coach to translate the many nuances of the practice is indescribable and well worth the investment. If I started without Greg, I don't think I'd still be doing it. He shows up without ego or 'spiritual materialism' and focuses his attention on what you specifically need to achieve.
Frequently asked
Can Qigong actually fix long-term chronic back pain?
Yes, Ben Moss reported that after a decade of struggling with back pain and trying acupuncture, physical therapy, and ozone, his pain was gone within three months of starting Qiveda. He noted that the practice changed his body physically and improved his awareness of how he moves.
Is Qigong physically demanding enough for athletes?
Ben Moss, who regularly lifts weights and does sprint work, initially doubted the physicality of the practice. He admitted he was wrong, stating that the practice is surprisingly physically demanding and has improved his functional strength for activities like playing football with his son.
How does Qigong compare to traditional sitting meditation?
Ben Moss found that moving meditation is more enjoyable than his previous 15-year sitting practice. He has largely replaced his sitting meditation with Qigong, noting it provides a deeper level of present-moment awareness that carries over into his high-stress career.
