The interview
What motivated you to join the program?
Last November, I decided to join United Tax Liens because I wanted to take my next step in my career. I was convinced that investing in tax liens was my key to success in retirement.
What has your experience been like since joining?
After I joined United Tax Liens, I started to ramp up my investment and now I'm starting to see some tremendous returns. It's been an incredible journey, and I'm starting to see some real results. I love getting up and working on this stuff. This is not a job to me. This is actually fun.
What was your professional background before this?
My name is Greg Barks. I live in St. Louis, Missouri, and I'm a retired IT operational excellence professional. And right now, as a retirement career, I'm doing real estate investing.
Did you have any hesitations before signing up?
The reason I almost didn't join United Tax Liens was because of the financial commitment. I trusted them because of their approach to coaching; they're really focused on the process and not necessarily the outcome.
How has this impacted your retirement planning?
The #1 benefit is really more or less a game changer for me. Typically, you think about the 4% rule or typical pension returns of roughly 6 to 8% annual returns. With looking at tax liens, I was considering 18%, which is a huge difference.
What was your experience with the private coaching?
The private coaching has been fantastic. My coach took the time to really teach me the process. She really knows the process, she's an expert in her field, and I feel privileged to spend the time with her. Now that I have the process down, I can invest with confidence.
How quickly were you able to complete your first deal?
I bought my first lien within a month. I started in November of 2024 and I bought my first lien in December of 2024. And I got paid on that lien in June of '25. The coaching really took me down a path where I could start to see the value quickly.
How much have you invested in tax liens so far?
I am using my 401k money as self-directed money to invest in tax liens. And now I've invested hundreds of thousands of dollars of my 401k money in tax liens.
