The interview
Can you introduce yourself and your background?
My name is Calista Poe, and I'm from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. My major is business entrepreneurship and business management. Working here has helped me develop leadership skills for a future career where I will be managing people, focusing on time management and leading others effectively.
What was your situation before joining Vector Marketing?
When I first started, I was working at a daycare making $14 an hour right after graduating high school. I was trying to figure out how to pay for college, and $14 an hour wasn't going to cut it. I was approached via Instagram and decided to run with the opportunity because I needed more money.
Did you have any hesitations about the legitimacy of the company?
Oh, yeah, absolutely. And still, like, two years later, I still do. But once you kind of get into it and you realize, like, once you get your first paycheck, you're like, oh my gosh, like, this is really easy work. It's a lot of fun, and it's not a scam at all. It's a really amazing opportunity.
Can you describe a specific success you had during a sales push?
This last summer during a push period, my original goal was $15,000. On the last two days, a lady approached me on Facebook after seeing my posts. In less than a 30-minute Zoom, she decided to get three signature sets with steak knives. It was a huge CPO, and I ended up breaking the SC2 assistant manager record.
What do you enjoy most about the company culture?
Honestly, it was just the culture and the people. I met my best friend working with Vector. As a 20-year-old college student, it is cool to surround myself with people who want to see success at a young age and who push you to be a better person every single day.
How does the flexibility compare to other jobs you've had?
The flexibility has been 100% better than other jobs. With other jobs, you're scheduled at a specific time and might get fired if you don't show up. With Vector, you create your own schedule. I'm involved in a sorority and intramurals, and I can prioritize my personal life and schooling before I even have to think about work.
What professional skills have you developed through this experience?
I would definitely say public speaking and communication in general. I've always been extroverted, but with Vector, I've seen myself turn that personality trait into a professional one. I've also been able to connect with people on deeper levels.
What has been the biggest impact on your life?
The financial opportunity is so cool. I've been able to personally pay for college myself without having to go into any student debt or take out any loans at all. I can pay my fees and sorority dues on time, which I didn't expect to be a reality at 20 years old. It opened my eyes to what is possible.
