“I was only working every Sunday to every other Sunday, making like $50 to $100 a paycheck, which as you can imagine, isn't enough to pay the bills.”
“I used to be the person who would try to order food from a waitress, and if she didn't hear me and walked away, I cried. And that's a true story.”
“I had enough time to do my homework and still have a chance to make a full time income working part time hours.”
The interview
What was your situation before starting with Vector Marketing?
I was a full-time college student in my first semester taking online classes so I could take care of my two-year-old son as a full-time single mom. I was working at Ross Dress for Less making only $50 to $100 a paycheck, which wasn't enough to pay bills or tuition.
What made you decide to look into the opportunity?
I got a letter in the mail that said $20 base pay at the time and flexible hours. My dad used to work for Cutco in the nineties and loved the product, but he was worried I'd have to pay for the sample set. I didn't have to put any money into it, which was good because I had no money at the time.
What made you say yes to joining the company?
Honestly, it was the relationship that I built with my district manager and his reassurance throughout training and his guidance when I did make sales. I followed what he asked me to do, called him during appointments, and I made sales.
What are some of your best customer stories?
Meeting people who already own Cutco and are so excited to see it is awesome. One of my first appointments was with my boyfriend's mom; she already had Cutco but ended up buying a whole Ultimate Set from me during my first weekend because she loves the product so much.
What surprised you most about working here?
The advancement opportunity. I was only here for a two-week winter break program and had no idea where I'd be three years later. I got asked to stay, became an assistant manager, ran my own branch office in 2023, and recently got promoted to district manager.
How is Vector different from other jobs you've had?
Complete flexibility. I get to make my own schedule and hours, which gives me time for chores and my son. In college, I had enough time for homework and still had a chance to make a full-time income working part-time hours.
What personal skills have you developed through this role?
I have developed so much in myself. I used to have the worst social anxiety—I'd cry if a waitress didn't hear my order. Now, I can start a conversation with anybody, no matter how prestigious I think they are, and have amazing connections.
What would you tell someone considering this job?
You can make your own schedule. Whether you are a full-time student, a single mom, or have another job, you can work Cutco around it. Once training is over, your schedule is entirely up to you and there is no limit on how much you can sell. You can work from anywhere, even a beach in Cabo.
Frequently asked
Do you have to pay for the Cutco sample set at Vector Marketing?
No. Kenzie Pyatt noted that while her father was concerned she would have to pay for the sample set based on his experience in the 90s, she did not have to put any money into it to start.
Can I work for Vector Marketing if I have social anxiety?
Yes. Kenzie described herself as having 'the worst social anxiety' to the point of crying if a waitress didn't hear her order, but through Vector, she developed the confidence to start conversations with anyone.
Is the Vector Marketing schedule actually flexible for parents?
Kenzie found the flexibility allowed her to manage everyday chores, online college homework, and full-time childcare for her two-year-old son while still earning a full-time income.
