The interview

What was your situation before starting with Vector Marketing?

I was a full-time college student in my first semester taking online classes so I could take care of my two-year-old son as a full-time single mom. I was working at Ross Dress for Less making only $50 to $100 a paycheck, which wasn't enough to pay bills or tuition.

What made you decide to look into the opportunity?

I got a letter in the mail that said $20 base pay at the time and flexible hours. My dad used to work for Cutco in the nineties and loved the product, but he was worried I'd have to pay for the sample set. I didn't have to put any money into it, which was good because I had no money at the time.

What made you say yes to joining the company?

Honestly, it was the relationship that I built with my district manager and his reassurance throughout training and his guidance when I did make sales. I followed what he asked me to do, called him during appointments, and I made sales.

What are some of your best customer stories?

Meeting people who already own Cutco and are so excited to see it is awesome. One of my first appointments was with my boyfriend's mom; she already had Cutco but ended up buying a whole Ultimate Set from me during my first weekend because she loves the product so much.

What surprised you most about working here?

The advancement opportunity. I was only here for a two-week winter break program and had no idea where I'd be three years later. I got asked to stay, became an assistant manager, ran my own branch office in 2023, and recently got promoted to district manager.

How is Vector different from other jobs you've had?

Complete flexibility. I get to make my own schedule and hours, which gives me time for chores and my son. In college, I had enough time for homework and still had a chance to make a full-time income working part-time hours.

What personal skills have you developed through this role?

I have developed so much in myself. I used to have the worst social anxiety—I'd cry if a waitress didn't hear my order. Now, I can start a conversation with anybody, no matter how prestigious I think they are, and have amazing connections.

What would you tell someone considering this job?

You can make your own schedule. Whether you are a full-time student, a single mom, or have another job, you can work Cutco around it. Once training is over, your schedule is entirely up to you and there is no limit on how much you can sell. You can work from anywhere, even a beach in Cabo.

Frequently asked

Do you have to pay for the Cutco sample set at Vector Marketing?

No. Kenzie Pyatt noted that while her father was concerned she would have to pay for the sample set based on his experience in the 90s, she did not have to put any money into it to start.

Can I work for Vector Marketing if I have social anxiety?

Yes. Kenzie described herself as having 'the worst social anxiety' to the point of crying if a waitress didn't hear her order, but through Vector, she developed the confidence to start conversations with anyone.

Is the Vector Marketing schedule actually flexible for parents?

Kenzie found the flexibility allowed her to manage everyday chores, online college homework, and full-time childcare for her two-year-old son while still earning a full-time income.

Speaker 0: My name is Mackenzie Pyatt or Kenzie, and I am from Kimberly, Idaho. Before starting with vector marketing, I was a full time college student in my first semester. I was taking all online classes so that I could take care of my son full time as well, cause I'm a full time single mom and he was two at the time, so I needed to have something where I could be able to take care of him full time. And I was working at Ross Dress for Less, but I was only working every Sunday to every other Sunday, making like $50 to $100 a paycheck, which as you can imagine, isn't enough to pay the bills or take care of a child or pay for tuition. So I got a letter in the mail with a job opportunity and it said $20 base pay at the time and flexible hours. So I looked into it and now now I'm here. I don't what is there anything else that do you want me to keep going or k. Yeah. 100%. My dad used to work for Cutco in the nineties, and he loves the product, but he was not up for me working with Cutco and Vector because he was like, oh, you're gonna have to pay for the sample set, but I didn't have to put any money into it. Because honestly, at the time, had no money, so it was it was a really good opportunity. But now they're a little bit more for it. That's for sure. What made me say yes to vector marketing was honestly the relationship that I built with my district manager and his reassurance throughout training and his guidance when I did make sales. And I followed what he asked me to do and to call him during my appointments and I made sales. That's that's a good question. There's there's quite a few. It's pretty much some of my best customer stories are just people who already own the product, and they're just so excited about it when they see it. And you just hear about where they got it, why they love it, and that they still use it. And it's super awesome meeting Cutco owners already. Besides that, just hooking people up with more Cutco because one of my first appointments was with my boyfriend at the time's mom. And she already had Cutco, but she ended up buying a whole set from me, like a whole ultimate set. And it felt great because that was my first weekend. And she just absolutely loves the product. She already has a pair of Super Sheers, but she wanted to buy another pair because she loves them so much. What surprised me the most about Vector was the advancement opportunity. I had no clue when I started. I had no idea where I was gonna be three years from when I started. I was only here for a two week winter break program, and I got asked to stay and became an assistant manager, ran my own branch office in 2023, and now I just recently got promoted to being a district manager. So definitely the advancement. It's totally fine. My son's out in the hall. No. Yeah. So how Vector is different from other jobs is just complete flexibility. I get to make my own schedule and my own hours, and that gives me so much more time to do my everyday chores and tasks, take care of my son. When I was in college, I had enough time to do my homework and still have a chance to make a full time income working part time hours. 100%. I've definitely gained a lot of skills here, but one big one that, like, I've just developed in myself, I have the worst social anxiety. So I didn't think that I was going to last at all when it came to sales, but through Vector, I can pretty much start a conversation with anybody I want to. No matter how prestigious I think they are, I I can start up a conversation with anybody and have amazing connections. But I used to be the person who would try to order food from a waitress, and if she didn't hear me and walked away, I cried. And that's a true story. What made me stay with vector marketing is, again, the flexibility. You can't beat it. And then also the people. I absolutely love the people, whether it's my district manager, whether it's the representatives that I get to meet or the people in interviews that I get to get to meet. All the customers that I've gotten to meet, everybody, everybody. I just absolutely love the people here and it's been an amazing opportunity. So I currently have a friend that works with me. He's my friend back from eighth grade in middle school, and pretty much he wasn't very successful at other jobs or keeping other jobs very well, but with Vector, I was like, Hey, come work with me, and I I can see what I can do to help you out as much as possible and see see what we can do about you having success in the company. But what I'd tell somebody really would be you you can make your own schedule. A lot of people my age are in college. So even if you're a full time student, even if you're a full time single mom, even if you're just a parent in general or just have a busy schedule or another job, you can still work Cutco around it. Like once you get training over, your schedule is entirely up to you and there is no limit on how much you can sell. So if you wanna make more money, guess what? You can do more demos and make more phone calls and you literally can do it whenever, wherever. I can literally go to Cabo San Lucas and sit on the beach and work if I wanted to because I can work from anywhere. Or I could take the whole month off and come back and sell at the same percentage as when I left. Yes.
