The interview

When did you know Book Launchers was the right choice for you?

I knew Book Launchers was right for me when Julie took the time to spend time with me, walk me through the process, and walk me through pricing. I just felt comfortable with the process, with the people, and with how patient they were with me.

What was your mindset before you became a published author?

When I think about life before writing a book, it was being on the other side of not being an author. 'Do I have an interesting enough story to tell?' 'Can I help people?' Life before writing it was more of a curiosity. 'Could it be me?'

How has your life changed since publishing your book?

Life after writing a book, I'm like, 'Why wouldn't you write a book?' I absolutely can do this. I absolutely had a story to tell. There's some level of credibility, interest, and respect that comes with being the author. That's a unique thing that happens.

What specific media opportunities did the book open up for you?

For me, I got into a lot of television and media appearances that I don't believe would have been possible without the book. I do a weekly segment every other Wednesday on Fox 2 Detroit. And then I also do every other Thursday a segment at the New York Stock Exchange on the Schwab Financial Network. Between the PR and marketing, the book was like the gateway to open those doors.

How did the Book Launchers process help you reach the finish line?

When you have a coach, when you have deadlines, you have somebody pushing you, you have stuff that's due, it just really helps you get to the finish line. Having the process completely mapped out, and more importantly for me, having that accountability, helped me get it to the finish line.

How did you handle the writing process during difficult personal times?

My mother passed away while I was writing the book. That moment, you're like, 'I should take a break.' I knew it's like, 'If I take a break, it's going to be that excuse to not finish it.' Book Launchers was very sympathetic, or just easy to walk with me through that emotional process. We got it done, we brought it to market, and then I wrote the dedication to my mom.

What does it mean for your brand to be associated with the NYSE?

My affiliation with the New York Stock Exchange and being in the financial space is just huge for my brand to be tied to the Schwab brand. To be a kid from Detroit who now has access to the New York Stock Exchange twice a month to shoot from the actual floor, and someone wants to hear my opinion on stocks and options, that's just huge.
