“It's almost like you pulled all the weeds out of the garden and you could finally see the flowers.”
“I own a business so it's like, do I sell the business? Do I grow the business? ... And that's kind of a, really, like a back and forth battle I was in.”
“I've made a decision here, to grow the business and sell it later. So I want to focus some attention and energy on that.”
The interview
What is the biggest shift you noticed this week?
The biggest shift I've noticed or thought through is just kind of not taking life so seriously. Maybe just appreciating life as it comes and not getting too hung up on the small things.
What is your biggest takeaway from the experience?
My biggest takeaway is that I'm on the right path, I'm doing the right things and just kind of trust the process and don't overthink things.
How do you plan to show up differently for your family?
I plan to show up differently for my kids. So, to try to be more present with them and patient with my son particularly. I had some challenges with him at the beginning of the week, so I plan to kind of foster that relationship.
What changes are you making to your personal health and daily routine?
I plan to take time for myself with my nutrition and exercise. To prioritize that because it's been put on the back burner for a while. And then also just to kind of organize my day so that I don't have quite as many distractions and I can kind of operate in flow for my work.
How would you describe your mental state after the program?
I think I'm most excited about just the energy that I've gotten from this week. Not mentally because I'm mentally fried right now. Just kind of like, the tools that I've learned—it's almost like you pulled all the weeds out of the garden and you could finally see the flowers. That's been really enlightening for me.
What was your situation like before coming to 40 Years of Zen?
I think I was a little bit stuck before in every aspect. Stuck with work where I wasn't really sure—I own a business so it's like, do I sell the business? Do I grow the business? Is it taking too much of my time? Am I giving it enough time? And that's kind of a back and forth battle I was in. And then kind of the same thing, being stuck with parenting. I don't know what I'm gonna do with my 3 year old. And then in my personal life, I need to start looking at my diet and nutrition. I didn't really know how to piece it together.
How does your life look now compared to before?
My life is the opposite of all of that. Now my life looks like flowing through my day at work and making good decisions. I have kind of made a decision here to grow the business and sell it later. So I want to focus some attention and energy on that. Being present with my son. I've learned some tools just this process of how to help kind of prevent some of the things that he was going through. And then on the personal life as well... you make time for the things that are important to you.
