David Potenza credits Advanced Longevity with literally saving his life after a scan detected cancer in a lymph node. Despite feeling healthy and exercising regularly, the screening caught the disease before it could metastasize. Potenza now utilizes their comprehensive metabolic and genetic testing to proactively manage his long-term health and vitality.

The interview
Who are you and what is your professional background?
My name is David Potenza. I live in South Lake, Texas, which is a suburb of Dallas. I am a health care consultant and a health coach.
Why did you initially delay getting a scan at Advanced Longevity?
I knew about Advanced Body Scan for probably about a year and a half or 2 years and, quite frankly, just kept putting off going because I was in good shape, I exercise all the time, eat well and thought I was perfectly fine.
What happened when you finally decided to get screened?
Finally, one day I took the owner up, Steve Marler, who started Advanced Longevity, took him up on an offer. And sure enough, I got scanned and they found cancer in a lymph node. Doctors told me that particularly because it was in a lymph node its ability to metastasize can happen almost every 30 days.
How has this experience changed your perspective on routine healthcare?
After that scare, I realized that getting routinely checked for things like cancer and heart disease were critical, especially as I got older. At a certain age, this is something that really needs to be part of a routine annual checkup, just like you go to your dentist or you're going to go to your eye doctor.
What specific services do you use at Advanced Longevity now?
I engaged them in their business called Advanced Longevity, which takes a much deeper dive into not just your physical health for heart disease and cancer, but does all sorts of diagnostic testing on your metabolic health, and also on your genetic health.
What was your experience with the staff and clinical environment?
The thing that I found is obviously going through a scary time is the compassion of their staff. They have doctors on staff and nurses. Everyone all the way down from the radiology tech was just absolutely great and gave me a lot of comfort that I was in good hands. You're not in a waiting room with a bunch of sick people.
What would have happened if you hadn't gone in for the scan?
Looking back, if I had stayed on the trajectory I was on of believing that I was perfectly healthy and perfectly fine, unfortunately, cancers don't really show up until they start later stage and end up impacting an organ. Then you're trying to chase it and your survival rates go way down.
Frequently asked
Should I get a full body scan if I feel healthy and exercise regularly?
Yes. David Potenza delayed his scan for nearly two years because he felt 'perfectly fine' and exercised constantly, yet the scan discovered cancer in a lymph node that showed no outward symptoms.
How does Advanced Longevity handle patients after a difficult diagnosis?
David Potenza highlights their compassion, noting that the staff, including doctors and nurses, helped him navigate finding a cancer specialist and provided comfort during a high-stress period.
Is Advanced Longevity different from other health screening franchises?
According to David Potenza, Advanced Longevity is privately held and offers a deeper dive into metabolic and genetic health rather than just physical scans, providing a more personalized clinical environment.
