The interview

What has been the number one benefit of joining Alloy for you?

The number one benefit from joining Alloy for me has really just been that I feel stronger. I feel like I'm getting better sleep at night, especially on the evenings or the days that I work out. I just find more energy for the overall day. I have three kids ranging from elementary school all the way up to high school, so the increased energy level that I get from it is very important to me.

What factors made you consider Alloy as an option for your fitness?

I was just experiencing the need to get back into the gym and having some more accountability. My mom actually used Alloy up in Alpharetta in Georgia and she had told me about them. I've joined a lot of other gyms before and pay membership and I don't show up. Also, as I'm getting older, it's important to start continuing strength training.

How did the team help you get comfortable with the program?

They start with an assessment and then they start letting you sign up for sessions. They were just all very welcoming. They meet you at the level that you're at. And so any hesitations I had about starting eased pretty quickly. They know kind of where to push you too far, or maybe you're not quite there yet, so maybe to do things and baby steps before you get there.

What has surprised you about the leadership at Alloy Lake Line?

The owner is amazing. A lot of the time, you don't have the owner involved as much and he's super involved. He not only helps you with scheduling your classes, he knows you by name when you go in and he also helps you on, if you need help on the nutrition side of it as well. He's willing to meet with you, talk about your nutrition and talking about your goals.

What makes Alloy different from a big box gym?

It's small group, so you get the personal touch. It's not a big gym where there's 30 people and they don't know exactly what you're doing. This is a small enough class that the teachers know where you're at. They can check if your form is correct or if your form is off to prevent any type of injuries. Also, I really like the fact that there are no mirrors. I feel like it helps you just concentrate on your workout.

What would you say to someone on the fence about joining?

I would just say, if you're looking for something that's small and intimate and allows you to get to know your trainers, allows you to even build relationships with others that are in the class as well, because you sign up consistently, each day you go about the same time and week. You have people that are there encouraging you, and you have people that are willing to work with you, not only on the fitness side, but also if you need some help on the nutrition side.

Frequently asked

Will I feel comfortable starting if I'm out of shape?

Yes. Kristina Jansen noted that Alloy starts with an assessment and meets you at the level you are at. The trainers are welcoming and know how to use 'baby steps' to help you progress without pushing too far too soon.

How does Alloy Personal Training keep members accountable?

Kristina mentioned that the trainers check in on you if you miss a session to make sure you are doing okay. The small group environment and consistent scheduling also help build relationships that encourage regular attendance.

What makes the Alloy workout environment different?

Kristina highlighted the lack of mirrors, which helps her concentrate on the workout rather than her appearance. She also noted the small class sizes allow trainers to monitor form closely to prevent injuries.
