The interview

Who are you and what is your relationship with Computer Market Research?

My name is Dave Cooper. I'm the VP of IT at Congoleum. We are a customer of CMR, Computer Market Research, and we use their entire suite of offerings.

What prompted your search for a new solution?

We went and did a search for a replacement product for our AS/400, which has been around since the nineties. We felt that the product suite CMR had could not only replicate what we do, but also make it better using more efficient newer technology and helped us to reduce our programming staff and sunset a very old AS/400.

How would you describe the implementation and configuration process?

We've been working with them for about three years now, configuring the CMR system, the point of sale information, the partner portal, the marketing and promotion portion to replace our AS/400. It was a difficult task because we were so heavily customized in how we ran the business here. The folks at CMR were able to come in and say, there's a more modern way to conduct your business, best business practice, and open up more business analytics.

What were the biggest challenges you faced with your legacy system?

Our biggest challenge here at Congoleum was maintaining a very old code on our old AS/400 and having to maintain an aging programming staff. It was difficult to react quickly on the old system; we were 'stuck in the mud.' We just weren't able to evolve to the demands of our customers.

What stands out to you about working with the CMR team?

For me, it was their patience with us in helping us migrate to newer business practices. They listened, they learned, they helped customize their interface to our specific needs, and it's a very fruitful ongoing relationship. Their hard work, diligence, and friendliness is above and beyond.

Would you recommend Computer Market Research to others in the industry?

I highly recommend Computer Market Research because of their ability to help you migrate and do better business in more modern systems that can talk to other systems out there. I will have no problem answering any industry calls for people examining them as a possible solution.

Frequently asked

Can Computer Market Research handle highly customized legacy business processes?

Yes. Dave Cooper noted that Congoleum was heavily customized in how they ran their business, but CMR was able to listen, learn, and customize their interface to meet Congoleum's specific needs while introducing modern best practices.

How does CMR impact IT staffing and resource management?

According to Dave Cooper, the implementation helped Congoleum reduce their programming staff and eliminate the need to maintain aging code on an old AS/400 system, putting power back into the hands of the end-users.

Is Computer Market Research suitable for large-scale system migrations?

Dave Cooper highly recommends them for migration, citing their long track record and ability to help companies map out a path from older systems to modern, interoperable SaaS solutions.

Speaker 0: CMR is fantastic to work with, and I will have no problem answering any industry calls for people examining them as a possible solution. My name is Dave Cooper. I'm the VP of IT at Congolium. We are a customer of CMR, Computer Market Research, and we use their entire suite of offerings. We went and did a search for a replacement product for our a s 400, which has been around since the nineties, and we felt that product suite CMR had could not only replicate what we do, but also make it better using more efficient newer technology and helped us to reduce our programming staff and sunset a very old a s 400. The folks at CMR actually listen to their customers, which is a nice thing instead of telling their customers what they need to do. So we've been working with them for about three years now, configuring the CMR system, the point of sale information, the partner portal, the marketing and promotion portion to replace our a s 400. And it was a difficult task because we were so heavily customized in how we ran the business here. And the folks at CMR were able to come in and say, there's a more modern way to conduct your business, best business practice, and open up more business analytics with granular research, granular feedback, reporting to put the power back into the user's hands where they can get the information themselves instead of having to rely on programmers. Our biggest challenge here at Kangolian was maintaining a very old code on our old a s 400 and having to maintain an aging programming staff. It was difficult to react quickly on the old system and I like to use the stuck in the mud term. If it worked for twenty five or thirty years, then it should continue to work, but that's not the case. We just weren't able to evolve to the demands of our customers and CMR has helped us drastically to do better business with the customers in a more timely fashion. For me, it was their patience with us in helping us migrate to newer business practices. Like I said, they listened, they learned, they helped customize their interface to our specific needs, and it's a very fruitful ongoing relationship. So I would think the patience and listening to the customers was the one thing that was very refreshing to see in the consulting and IT industry. I highly recommend Computer Market Research because their ability to help you migrate and do better business in more modern systems that can talk to other systems out there. They have a long track record of helping companies like Congolium. It's easy for them to help map out a path, and their hard work and their diligence and their friendliness is above and beyond. It's very refreshing.
