The interview
What is your background and relationship with DHA Laboratory?
My name is Dr. Bill Walsh, located in Naperville, Illinois. Our organization is the Walsh Research Institute, which does experimental research on autism, schizophrenia, and behavior disorders. I have been associated with and assisted by Direct Healthcare Access for a very long time, maybe as long as 50 years.
How does DHA Laboratory compare to other labs you have used?
I get involved with a lot of labs and I've done a lot of proficiency testing of several different labs. I found from the beginning that DHA has been especially useful. I'm quite certain they have the world's best assay for Pyrrole Disorder.
How has DHA Laboratory impacted the cost of care for your patients?
They have set up a profile for patients who might have depression or anxiety. These labs would typically cost something like $1500. But because we use a profile that's always the same thing, with DHA labs, it's usually more between $300 and $400, which is great for the patients.
Have you collaborated with DHA Laboratory on technical developments?
In the past five or six years, we developed a system for automatically determined dilution for Pyrrole testing. It is a urine test, so you really need to get the dilution measured properly, and they do it automatically now based on our cooperation.
How does DHA Laboratory handle international logistics for doctors and patients?
Dan Hanson has developed a system of providing these services to places throughout the world. We now have hundreds of doctors who don't live in the United States, including more than 5000 from Australia and patients from 62 foreign countries like Indonesia, Oman, and Egypt. They are very good at showing people how to get these services with relatively low cost despite high shipment costs.
Will you continue to recommend DHA Laboratory to the doctors you train?
I have been recommending DHA Lab to the 1200 doctors we've trained and the new ones we're going to be working with. I do that because I think they're the best. I will continue to test DHA and others, and I have no reason to believe that I won't continue to recommend them.
Is there any specific support DHA provided in your early research years?
Back in the beginning, when I was researching the causes of violent crime and getting samples from penitentiaries, DHA and Dan Hanson actually gave me many, many hundreds of free samples for my early research.
