Raphael Lebovits found that Dr. Tom Moorcroft’s LDPC training program transformed his clinical practice by replacing fear and inadequacy with evidence-based confidence. By providing a supportive group of expert peers and a focus on the science of chronic illness, the program empowers clinicians to treat complex Lyme and PANS/PANDAS cases with a balanced, rational approach.

The interview
What is your overall impression of the LDPC program?
Overall, the program itself is extraordinarily supportive. A lot of times, Dr. Moorcroft will say something in a lecture or a live call, the way that he'll put something, and that'll kind of stick with me, and I find myself repeating these things because they just kind of make sense. You know, slow is smooth, smooth is fast.
How does it feel to have Dr. Tom Moorcroft as a mentor?
It's extremely supportive to know that you have this group behind you, and you have somebody like Dr. Tom, who really is just at the top of his game. It's a really good feeling as a clinician to be able to have that to lean on.
What led you to seek out this specific training program?
At that time I was already seeing chronic illness patients, I was already seeing Lyme patients, and PANS, PANDAS, and I was basically using other resources for going about treating these patients, and I kind of felt, for lack of a better term, inadequate. I wanted somebody to guide me.
What was your initial interaction with Dr. Tom Moorcroft like?
I had a discussion with Dr. Tom, who was extraordinarily gracious, and gave me about an hour and a half of his time, which was beyond. And he answered me something that I don't think I'll ever forget: treating chronic illness and life itself is about balance. It was that statement, that sentiment—more than anything—that really was like, wow, this is the guy that I really want to learn from.
How has the LDPC group impacted your clinical confidence?
I really feel that clinicians have to have a little bit of humility, and understand that no, we don't know everything. But then I'm like, 'Okay, but that's okay.' Even if I don't know, I have a group. I have an LDPC. I have a Dr. Moorcroft. I have a Dr. Montalvo. I have all these different doctors who are part of the LDPC who support each other as a group. It takes away a lot of the fear and uncertainty about treating some of these patients.
What stands out to you regarding the clinical resources provided?
Ultimately what I really, really love about the LDPC and Dr. Tom is that everything focuses on science. Everything focuses on evidence. It's all evidence-based. The studies are all at the fingertips of everybody in the LDPC because Dr. Tom puts it there.
