The interview

Why would you recommend Fineline Construction to friends and family?

The main reason I would recommend Fineline to families and friends is because I'm so happy with what they've done and I don't think they did anything different for me than they do for their other customers. They were so respectful of our place. We actually lived in the home while they were renovating and every morning, every evening, it was clean when they left and the project was constantly updated.

Why did you choose Fineline Construction over other contractors?

I decided to go with Fineline construction rather than other contractors because I talked to some other people, and Mitchell right away understood my vision, and helped me even improve on it. Whereas other people were sort of trying to guide me towards what they thought would be an easier project.

What was the main benefit you experienced during the project?

The main benefit I experienced using Fineline construction was that they had really great communication. Mitchell and the team were very respectful of my space, and our budget. And because we had such great communication when something came up, we were very easily able to make adjustments or changes to the project or to fix some of the problems in my older house that needed to be fixed that were unexpected.

What was the scope of your renovation project?

This was the 3rd phase, and it included almost everything on the outside of the house. The main things we did were we wanted to paint our bricks blue, which is a little controversial, and they really helped us work on that. Eventually we wound up knocking up the whole back wall of the house, changing some windows to a door, and to make an outdoor space that not only do I love, but my husband also loves.

What specific features were added to your outdoor living area?

We got new garage doors, our old ones were dented and really out of date. And we redid our whole pool and the backyard living area. So we included a new fire pit, a new outdoor grill and living area. And we moved our pool. We had to move our pool a little bit because it wasn't really in a great spot. After we painted the house, we thought it would really be a great idea to add stone to the bottom of it and to make the stairs stone—really makes the whole thing pop.

How did the team handle the management of different vendors and changes?

We changed the front door, all the outdoor lighting, had to get new gutters, and Mitchell and his team supervised everything, even the swimming pool, so that we didn't have to deal with a lot of different people. They really handled everything for us. I was a little hesitant to do so many things at one time, but Mitchell really worked with us. Sometimes I would knock something off, and then I would change my mind and we'd put it back on, and they worked with us every step of the way.
