The interview
What do you love most about working with GeneMetrics?
One of the things about GeneMetrics that I love is they're so open and receptive to continually innovating their product. As new SNPs come out, as new genetic reporting comes out and new science and research around genetics, they're constantly integrating it and coming up with new reports and new data points that we can use to continually refine and improve the way we work with our clients.
Why did you choose GeneMetrics over other genetic reporting companies?
I chose GeneMetrics because I love how they are very focused on the science of what SNPs actually have relevant data behind them to support their actual utility. There are a number of other companies out there selling genetic reports and honestly, I think a lot of it's garbage. With GeneMetrics and Dan Luper, they're really obsessed with the actual science and the studies behind which SNPs matter and which don't.
How does the reporting impact your relationship with your clients?
Having the beautiful, awesome report that GeneMetrics provides allows us to integrate the genetic data into our personalized plan but also make sure that the client understands what the heck it means. Because it can sometimes get overwhelming and intimidating. I've used other companies where the reporting is challenging for the practitioner and the consumer; this one is easy to integrate on both sides.
How do you use GeneMetrics data in your clinical practice?
We look at things like nutrition—what should our clients be eating, what should they not be eating, macronutrient ratios, foods to avoid, and micronutrient deficiencies they might be dealing with. The genetics from GeneMetrics really gives us a foundational understanding of where should we start with that. We use it as a guide to give science-based lifestyle recommendations rather than just guessing.
What has been the measurable impact on your business operations?
I know that GeneMetrics has definitely changed client satisfaction and client engagement and their understanding and how the genetics kind of tie in. It helps us provide a better overall customer experience. Also, it was very important for me that it was easy for my team to be able to use and not need me to support them in that, and it's been great.
Frequently asked
Is GeneMetrics reporting easy for patients to understand?
Yes, Dr. Tracy Gapin highlights that the reports are 'beautiful' and designed to help clients understand complex data without feeling overwhelmed. The portal is specifically built to be user-friendly for both the practitioner and the consumer.
How does GeneMetrics compare to other genetic testing companies?
Dr. Gapin notes that many other companies sell reports not based on real data, which he characterizes as 'garbage.' He chose GeneMetrics because they are 'obsessed with the actual science' and only include SNPs with supported utility.
Can a medical team manage GeneMetrics without the lead physician?
Dr. Gapin confirmed it was very important that his team could use the portal independently. He found the system easy for his staff to navigate and share information with clients without requiring his constant support.
