The interview

What brought you to the Joint Vitality Institute?

I went to the Joint Vitality Institute because I had had two years of pain in my right leg, which I had had a hip replacement in three years ago. After nine months of healing from the hip replacement, I started tennis again and very quickly started having problems with my adductor muscles. No matter how many times I stopped or went to PT, it just didn't help.

What was your initial impression of the consultation with Joshua Roos?

I was referred to Joshua Roos, and I decided to go through with it and I was very impressed with him. He listened to me, he watched me walk, he did an ultrasound. He basically said, you know, your adductor is really unhappy and needs, it's been injured and re-injured and re-injured without ever getting better.

How did you decide on which treatment to pursue?

He offered me three different choices of things to do to fix it. I originally chose the cheapest option and then the office people, including the technicians, talked me into the shockwave treatment with the radio waves, too. I was not convinced it was going to work.

How was your condition affecting your daily life before treatment?

It had been very frustrating and every little step felt like pain or aching compared to putting weight on my left leg. I could not go upstairs at all. I was really kind of at the end of my rope when I went to them.

What were the results of the shockwave therapy?

After three sessions at the Joint Vitality Institute with the radio shockwave, I noticed the next day that I could walk on my leg and not feel it was different from my left leg. I could start going upstairs without any residual pain in my groin muscle or groin area or my leg.

Would you recommend this treatment to others?

I'd say try it, for sure. It was effective enough and life-changing enough that the money issue became irrelevant for me. If you can afford it, this is something that will make your life much, much better than it was if you've gotten to this point that you need it.

Frequently asked

Is shockwave therapy at Joint Vitality Institute worth the cost?

Carolyn Epstein was initially unsure if the treatment would be worth the money. However, after seeing the results, she stated that the treatment was so effective and life-changing that the cost became irrelevant to her.

Does shockwave therapy work for long-term muscle injuries?

Yes, Carolyn had suffered from adductor pain for two years that did not respond to physical therapy. After three sessions of radio shockwave therapy, she noticed the very next day that she could walk without feeling a difference between her legs.

What is the diagnostic process like at Joint Vitality Institute?

Carolyn noted that Joshua Roos performed a thorough evaluation, which included listening to her history, watching her walk, and performing an ultrasound to identify that her adductor was 'unhappy' and repeatedly re-injured.
