The interview

What is the most significant takeaway from your time with Mindshare?

The takeaway for me is just the people that I've met. Those friendships endure because we're all going through this together, and we all have the same goals of 'a rising tide lifts all ships,' like JJ says.

What were you looking for when you initially joined the Mastermind?

When I joined Mastermind, I had a specific plan in place. I think initially I was probably looking for something else. Just something inside of me wasn't where I wanted to be. I wanted to write a book, I wanted to expand a little bit more.

How did the community environment impact your professional growth?

What I found was that by joining Mastermind initially was just community. It wasn't really about me and what was inside me. It was that I needed to be around people that were the movers and the shakers and the doers, because being around those people expanded my horizons.

What were your biggest 'materialistic' wins since joining?

I got a book deal with Harper Collins that was one of the bigger first-time book deals that they ever signed.

How did your practice change after implementing advice from the community?

In October of 2023, I switched from being 100% insurance based to being cash based. My volume went down probably 35%, but my revenues tripled. People are paying what I am now valued at versus what I mentally felt like I was valued at.

How has this transition affected your personal life and creativity?

The numbers of appointments I see are much less, but it gives me time to create, it gives me time to pursue other things that I enjoy doing, travel and reading and things like that. It really kind of just changed my mindset.

Frequently asked

Will patients leave if I switch from insurance to a cash-based model?

Shawn Tassone had a 'petrified fear' that his patients would leave if he stopped taking insurance. However, after JJ Virgin convinced him the fear was internal, he made the switch; while volume dropped 35%, his revenue tripled as patients paid what he was actually valued at.

The people here, I feel like, are the people that really got me. And the fun thing is, they don't all live in Austin where I live. They're all around Australia and all these places that I haven't even been. But those friendships endure, and they endure because we're all going through this together, and we all have the same goals of arising tide lifts all ships, like JJ says. So I think that the takeaway for me is just the people that I've met. I'm Shawn Tassone. I am an integrative gynecologist, America's holistic gynecologist, practicing in Austin, Texas, author of the Hormone Balance Bible. And my practice is mainly geared towards women hormonal imbalances, and using a combination of spiritual practices, hormonal modulation, infaceuticals, nutrition, exercise, and proper supplementation to help them feel and live their best. When I joined Mastermind, I had a specific plan in place. I think initially I was probably looking for something else. Just something inside of me wasn't where I wanted to be. I wanted to write a book, I wanted to expand a little bit more. And what I found was that by joining Mastermind initially was just community. And it wasn't really about me and what was inside me. It was that I needed to be around people that were the movers and the shakers and the doers, because being around those people expanded my horizons. Big wins for me since joining the Mindshare Mastermind Community, I would say on a materialistic level, I got a book deal with Harper Collins that was one of the bigger first time book deals that they ever signed. In October of last year, 2023, I switched from being 100% insurance based, Medicaid, Medicare, all those plans, to being cash based. And I had this internal petrified fear that all my patients would leave me, that nobody would feel that sticking with me would be worth it. And JJ convinced me that was all coming from inside of me. So I put out the emails, got people ready, and my volume went down probably 35%, but my revenues tripled. And so what I found was that I'm doing the same thing I've always done, and people are paying what I am now valued at versus what I mentally felt like I was valued at. And the insurance model makes you feel like you're worth that, unfortunately. And so, I have now the numbers of appointments I see are much less, but it gives me time to create, it gives me time to pursue other things that I enjoy doing, travel and reading and things like that. And so really kind of just changed my mindset.
