The interview

What surprised you most about working with Courtney?

What surprised me the most about working with Courtney was just how knowledgeable she is. I was pretty astounded by that actually because any other fitness professional I'd worked with before didn't seem to know nearly as much. Anytime I had to ask her a question, whether it was about nutrition or a certain machine or gym culture, she always had an answer.

What was your life like before working with Moxie Fitness?

Before working with Courtney at Moxie, my life was pretty sedentary. I didn't move around a whole lot. I didn't go outside much; tired a lot. Wasn't really capable of doing many physical things. I remember a specific period beforehand when I wanted to help some family members move into their house, and I wasn't able to because I got so tired, and I just couldn't lift things I wanted to.

What made you decide to say 'yes' to Courtney?

My stepmom already knew her, so she was a family friend and my stepmom's business partner, so she was trusted already. I needed something different that I wouldn't lose motivation for.

Were there any obstacles that almost prevented you from starting?

If there was something that would have prevented me working with Courtney, it would have been that it was new. I am a very change-resistant person, and I'd kind of already become disheartened by my previous attempts at trying to get into my physical health. I also was worried about the cost a little bit because I'd try things before and I didn't want my parents paying for something that wouldn't work out again.

What other methods had you tried in the past?

I tried horseback riding, tried soccer and then I even tried cross country, and all of those things I lacked the motivation for. And then my doctor would always tell me that, 'Hey, you're underweight, you need to eat right' or 'you need to drink more water,' but just knowing it alone wasn't much of a motivator.

What are you able to do now that you couldn't do before?

I am able to help my family out a lot more if they need to move something heavy. My parents are older now, so they got the back problems that come with age, so I'm able to help them a lot more. I feel a lot more useful around the house. I'm also able to motivate myself to go to the gym and work on the parts of my body that I can focus on specifically.

Yes, Meadow Weiss noted that Courtney always had answers for why something was hurting in a specific way. Courtney addressed Meadow's specific health issues and provided science-based explanations for nutrition and body mechanics.

I was pretty astounded by that actually because any other fitness professional I'd worked with before didn't seem to know nearly as much. I would ask them a question and they'd be like, "I don't know, I'll have to look it I guess." But anytime I had to ask her a question, whether it was about nutrition or a certain machine or, like, gym culture just about, like, the parts of the body that I needed to work more. Why something was hurting in a specific way. She always had an answer, which surprised me a lot. I didn't move around a whole lot. I didn't go outside much; tired a lot. Wasn't really capable of doing many, like, physical things. I remember a specific period beforehand when I wanted to help some family members move into their house, and I wasn't able to because I got so tired, and I just couldn't lift things I wanted to. I like being helpful and my sedentary lifestyle didn't help me fulfill that trait. What made me say "yes" to Courtney my stepmom already knew her, so she was a family friend and my stepmom's business partner, so she was trusted already. I needed something different that I wouldn't lose motivation for. If there was something that would have prevented me working with Courtney, it would have been that it was new. I am a very change-resistant person, and I'd kind of already become disheartened by my previous attempts at trying to get into my physical health. The things I've tried in the past that didn't work for me horseback riding, tried soccer and then I even tried cross country, and all of those things I lacked the motivation for. And then my doctor would, you know, always tell me that, "Hey, you're underweight, you need to eat right or... you need to drink more water," or tell me what most doctors would say, but just knowing it alone wasn't much of a motivator. What I'm able to do now that I wasn't able to do before working with Courtney is help my family out a lot more if they need to move something heavy. My parents are older now, so, like, they got the back problems that come with age, I guess, so I'm able to help them a lot more. feel a lot more... useful, like, around the house. I'm also able to motivate myself to go to the gym, and work on the parts of my body that I can focus on specifically. And even motivate the people I love to focus on their health as well, and their nutrition. It has been a very beneficial experience for me. I have recommended Courtney and Moxie Fitness to family members and friends that I know, especially those who are very uncomfortable with starting in the gym like I was. And I understand that starting something like that can seem pretty scary if you haven't done it before. And she has always been a great help with that. She's very understanding. For those people I know who have specific health issues that they need addressed, she's addressed mine. So I think she would be a very good place to start.
