Terry Snyder reports that working with Now Health resulted in her being "far healthier" today than when she started, despite being older. Most significantly, through the clinic's integrative efforts and partnership with a physical therapist, she successfully avoided a planned knee replacement surgery while benefiting from a subscription-based model that prioritizes longevity.

The interview
Who are you and what is your background?
I'm Terry Snyder. I live in Alaska and I am currently retired. I was just a normal Alaskan; I think by and large it's a unique place to live so you have to be ready for just about any kind of weather.
How has your life improved since working with Now Health?
I definitely think my life has improved since I started working with Jill and Now Health. I'm much more focused on my health and I think it's helped my longevity.
Did you have any hesitations before joining the practice?
The number one reason I didn't almost join—I waited a little bit—was that I was a current patient at Dr. Valerius before she went to this model of health and I just needed to learn more about it. It was unique to Alaska. I have really good coverage for insurance so switching over to a subscription base, I had some questions about it. I wondered if it would turn into something where only people like me that can afford it could do it.
What surprised you most about the transition to Now Health?
What surprised me the most about Now Health is how seamless the transition was. She has always had a very steady staff who are kind and understanding. It's just a first class operation which actually happens to be about two blocks from me, so I can walk there.
What makes their approach to medicine unique?
Her focus on not just treating a symptom but finding out why you have that symptom? I think is unique to doctors and I was all for that. It's a very non-invasive way of medicine and I think it really does make a difference on how healthy you are.
What is the primary benefit you have received?
The number one benefit I've received is the simplicity of it, but at the same time just the focus on without judgment, which I think is really important with doctors. The thing I thought I was buying was a membership and access to her, but what I really got was a much fuller picture on how she could help me with my health and areas I hadn't thought about.
Can you share a specific health win you've experienced?
I'm older today, much older today than when I started seeing her, but I'm far healthier, so that's been a really nice surprise. She helped me through—I really thought I was headed to knee replacement—and through her efforts and the efforts of a really, really good physical therapist that she works with, I'm avoiding it. So that to me, that's a huge win.
What would you say to someone considering joining Now Health?
If you're sitting on the fence, my recommendation to you is jump over the fence. I think it's a health model that everybody will benefit from. It'll save you time, and in the long run it'll save you money because I know that she is very conscious about not ordering extra tests and extra hoops to go through. You'll be very pleased at the rapid response time.
Frequently asked
Is a subscription-based medical model worth it if I have good insurance?
Terry Snyder initially questioned the subscription model because she already had excellent insurance coverage. However, after seeing the focus on root-cause healing rather than just symptom management, she found it to be a 'first class operation' that ultimately saves time and money.
Can functional medicine help avoid surgery like a knee replacement?
Yes, according to Terry Snyder, the efforts of Dr. Valerius at Now Health and a recommended physical therapist allowed her to avoid a knee replacement she previously thought was inevitable.
What is the communication like at Now Health?
Terry Snyder highlights the 'rapid response time' and the lack of frustration compared to normal doctor offices, noting that the staff is steady, kind, and understanding.
