The interview
Who are you and what do you do outside of work?
My name is Amy Quick and I am a psychotherapist. When I'm not in session, I like to spend time with my family, I also enjoy learning more about psychology and typically, you can find me watching a movie, going for a walk, knitting, crocheting, playing with my dogs.
What are your specific areas of focus in therapy?
My areas of focus are religious trauma and parents who are experiencing overwhelm - especially those with children who have extra needs. I have been with Perspective Center for Holistic Therapy for three and a half years.
What can clients expect when they work with you?
What clients can expect when they work with me is to be fully accepted for who they are. We'll talk through everything that's going on for them at the moment. We'll process all of their feelings and thoughts and we'll work on ways for them to be living the life that they want.
Why are you passionate about being a psychotherapist?
Why I'm passionate about being a psychotherapist is because, when I was younger and met with life's inevitable difficulties, I experienced therapy for myself and saw how beneficial it was for me. And as a result of that it set a desire in me to help others.
What made you want to join Perspectives Holistic Therapy?
What made me want to join Perspectives was the people. It's a great group of people here. We all share a common goal of helping others.
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
Some of the approaches that I like to use as a therapist are person-centered therapy, self-compassion, mindfulness, emotionally focused therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy.
How does therapy benefit your clients?
Therapy can benefit people by helping them to accept themselves and understand themselves and work through any of the symptoms that they may be having that are causing them to... just suffer a little bit. And it helps them to be able to move through the world in a better, more easy way and be able to relieve their stress and live the life that they want.
What does Holistic Therapy mean to you?
Holistic Therapy means, to me, that the therapist will look at client as a whole person. We won't necessarily only talk about your thoughts, we'll talk about your thoughts and your feelings and how it is affecting your body. We'll talk about your life spiritually. It brings into account all of the areas of your life.
