The interview

What was a standout moment from the final portraits?

There's this one photo of him stretching on the little ottoman and he's like looking up at the light. There was this moment where I looked at it and I was like, that's my old dog and my new dog having a moment. There was something about the light and the way he was looking; even my mom was taken back. It was just that perfect photo where, when it's time to memorialize him, that will be the one.

Can you tell us about yourself and your dog?

Hi, I am Felicia Rose. I do online sales and I have a Havanese dog. He's about to turn 12 years old. His name is Fries and he is the absolute love of my life.

How did you discover Sarah Prall Portraiture and what drew you to them?

I got an ad probably because of my location while visiting Massachusetts. I was like, ooh, what is this? The colors are so pretty—they look like paintings and they're portraits and they're so well done and they're beautifully crafted on canvas. I was just like, my gosh, I need this.

What were your goals for the photo session?

I wanted it to be about him and I wanted it to be something I could give my family as gifts and something that they could have of the dog forever. But I was like, these photos are too good, I need to be in them too. I need me and my doggy and our relationship captured. The photographer did a really good job of that.

What was the actual studio experience like for you and Fries?

I didn't think it would just be me alone with a photographer, which was a really cool setting. My dog just could kind of roam about and do his thing. He had a place to get some water, there were snacks, there were ways to kind of keep his attention. He wasn't there with four other dogs getting distracted in a waiting room; it was truly my session.

How did the collaboration with the photographer work?

I really liked that I had creative control. All of my wants and needs were met and listened to. The photographer worked with me on making sure that my vision came to life. It was special and it was personalized.

How did you feel about the cost and the purchasing process?

I made this decision based on wanting to have memories with my dog that were different than just printing off a photo. There are ways to make it affordable for yourself and there's a lot of options within what you're purchasing. I didn't feel obligated to make a purchase or pressured to spend more money that I didn't have. I made the decisions with the help of Coralie.

I need to be in them too. I need me and my doggy and like our relationship captured. And it was great. The photographer did a really good job of that. First of all, I didn't think it would just be me alone with a photographer, which was a really cool setting. my dog just could kind of roam about and do his thing. he had a place to get some water, there were snacks, there were ways to kind of keep his attention, which I thought was really great for the experience. And then also the fact that he wasn't there with like four other dogs getting distracted in the waiting room, you will, or anything like that. It was truly my session. And along with that, I really liked that I had creative control. all of my wants and needs were met and listened to, which I really appreciate because I know I'm going in there as not a photographer and who am I to tell you what to do? But the photographer worked with me on making sure that my vision came to life, I just thought the experience in general was really. It was special and it was personalized. I just felt like it was a great experience for me and my dog. It wasn't just about my dog. It was about making sure that whatever my vision was came true. And I really liked that. I think a lot of times people are like well there's a lot of money involved and yes this isn't this isn't you know going to JCPenney this is ⁓ a bigger experience than that but you're also getting pieces of artwork I don't spend a lot of money on myself or things like this. And I made this decision based on just wanting to have memories with my dog that were different than just printing off a photo and framing it. I wanted something that I can hang when I have a house someday, I can hang in my house proudly and be like, this is art. there are ways to make it affordable for yourself. If it's something where you're like, I really want this, but it just feels like it's out of my price range, I can attest to the fact that you can make it in your price range. And also there's a lot of options within what you're purchasing. So that's very important. I didn't feel obligated to make a purchase. I didn't feel pressured to spend more money. that I didn't have, I just went in there and did what I wanted and made the decisions with the help of Coralie, I just think that if that's your deciding factor, just do it. That's all I have to say is just do No regrets, not a single I have all this beautiful artwork that I can either give out as presents or I can hang on my wall. it's priceless, 100%.
