The interview

What has Heather taught you during your time in the Living Lighter program?

Heather has taught me really to focus life in the present moment and ask, 'How do things feel now?' I have learned to figure out what is lighter and brighter for me. I'm able to deal with the challenges in a better fashion that is kinder to myself in the process, which is role modeled by Heather's leadership and kindness.

What specific challenges were you facing before joining the program?

I had lost two parents in a fairly short period of time and was downsizing all their belongings and bringing a lot of them here. I've learned in the group that a lot of people have had similar challenges, coming to the realization that space is limited and there isn't space for everything.

What were your initial hesitations about signing up?

The hesitation is actually more from within because it's like, okay, if I sign up for this program, what happens if it doesn't work out? It's the thought of disappointing myself or not meeting a goal that I had set for myself that causes me the most anxiety, really.

What are the most powerful takeaways or tools you've gained?

Amongst the most powerful takeaways is just being able to, in the moment, look at an object and decide, 'Does this feel light or does it feel heavy?' If there's any feelings of heaviness, you can explore why you are holding onto it. The other one is acknowledging the importance of neuro-regulation and different techniques like giving yourself a hug or touching your face to help calm yourself.

How has the community and group dynamic impacted your experience?

I've felt supported by listening to the stories of others and reading the chat. Heather sets a tone of kindness that permeates the group, and there is a lot of synergy in the coaching calls. Most people join for physical clutter, but they stay because of the nurturing environment and the way we help each other reach the best version of ourselves.

What results have you seen after the first six months?

It surprised me how long it's taken for me to get to where I want to be, but am I further along after the first six months than I was before? Definitely. Is my mindset healthier? No question. I wouldn't want to go back to where I was before I started the program.

after having been involved with the Living Lighter program for a while now, what Heather has taught me is really to focus life in the present moment, It's how do things feel now? I have learned to figure out what is lighter and brighter for me. I'm able to deal with the challenges in a better fashion that ⁓ is know, kinder to myself in the process. And I think that's role modeled really with leadership and the kindness that she shows everyone in the group. Hi, my name's Elizabeth and I live in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, which is close to Toronto. the things that surrounded me in my home that still do surround me, I I still have challenges. I'm still a work in progress. But after having ⁓ lost ⁓ two parents in a fairly short period of time and downsizing all their belongings ⁓ and bringing a lot of them here, As I've learned ⁓ in the group, a lot of people have had similar challenges, and coming to the realization that space is limited and there isn't space for everything. So it's how you find acceptance for yourself and knowing that where you are is okay and what you're going through is ⁓ legitimate and your feelings are real and you get to a point where you learn to process those items, get them out of your house and make your space more calm and nurturing for you. Heather is a special individual and ⁓ it was really listening to her speak and really feeling the authenticity in her words. when you see Heather speaking from her own experience and not sugarcoating anything and being honest with her struggles, ⁓ you feel her authenticity. she will honestly say that, you know, she isn't a minimalist by nature. She's more of a maximalist, but she has learned a different lifestyle and ⁓ I am ⁓ striving to do the same. I think the hesitation ⁓ is actually more from within because it's like, okay, if I sign up for this program, what happens if it doesn't work out? ⁓ It's the thought of disappointing myself or not meeting a goal that I had set for myself that causes me the most anxiety, really. I really enjoy being able to go to the different Zoom meetings and hear other people's experiences and hear the different experts that she has come on to share their wisdom. So that's always really a treasure trove of great information for everyone. There has been a ⁓ lot of different things that she's presented that have resonated with me, which is why I have stayed in the program. Amongst the most powerful takeaways is just being able to, in the moment, look at an object and decide, does this feel light or does it feel heavy? If it's light, it's right. If there's any feelings of heaviness towards an object, you can explore that and then say, well, why am I holding onto it then? The other one really is learning more and acknowledging more the importance of neuroregulation ⁓ and different techniques to help calm yourself and put yourself in the most receptive state to be able to deal with the clutter that you need to tackle. ⁓ So whether it's giving yourself a hug or touching your face or just the different things and Heather role models them before every coaching session that we have online. So we can do that as a group and see what works for you. those things I do take with me and when I'm feeling anxious or overwhelmed. I know, okay, I need to get in a better state of neuro-regulation before I can tackle whatever it is that's on my plate. I've felt supported by the community just actually by listening to the stories of others ⁓ and also reading the chat and finding ⁓ how many other people have dealt with similar challenges. And I find that Heather really sets the tone ⁓ and that when she leads with such kindness, it seems to just permeate within the group and there's a lot of synergy that ends up happening ⁓ within the coaching calls. I think it surprised me how long it's taken for me to still to get to where I want to be and that the process is whatever the process is for the individual. ⁓ You know, when you're in your head, you kind of think, all right, well, You sign up for something and everything's going to be fixed in six months. It's a six month program. I'm going to be fixed in six months. it doesn't happen that way. But ⁓ am I further along after the first six months than I was before? Definitely. Is my mindset ⁓ healthier? No question. So would I want to go back to where I was before I started the program? No. Do I have a long way to go? Quite honestly, yes. But I know I'm not alone in that and I'm kinder to myself in knowing it's going to take as long as it's going to take. I think I'm more aware of how clutter isn't just physical, how it does affect the mind and the body and even the cleaning products that we're using, the things we use to cook with, the food that we eat. So I'm much more cognizant of how all those factors combine and making changes in each of those areas, ⁓ really one impacts the other more positively. And so if you're eating better food and getting more exercise and in a healthier ⁓ mental state, then overall your quality of life is improved as a result, If you're sitting on the fence about working with Heather, I would say take that leap of faith and move forward and just trust that you'll get the information that you need to improve your life and that you are in control ultimately and you have choice in every step along the way. And there are a lot of ⁓ tools that are offered to you and you'll find out what resonates with you and I believe your life will be richer as a result and you'll have more insights into ⁓ how your brain works and you'll find a lot of support within the group if you choose to accept it. I would have to say that most people join probably because they feel they have a problem with physical clutter. But I believe that they stay because of the nurturing environment that Heather creates and curates so beautifully ⁓ with her kindness. ⁓ The synergy of the group can really be magical at times. know, somebody... is there to offer something at just the right time when ⁓ a problem is presented within a coaching session. And we're really all there to help each other to reach the best version of ourselves by acknowledging our challenges and witnessing our triumphs.
