What happened after you utilized sleep coaching?

How do you apply this experience in your professional life?

I'm Megan Hast. I am a licensed clinical social worker and a Gentle Sleep Coach. I work in perinatal mental health, so I support moms and families going through pregnancy postpartum and a big part of that is sleep. I also support families with newborn sleep, with toddler sleep, baby sleep.

What specific age groups or sleep issues do you enjoy working with?

I really like to work with newborns. I really like doing that newborn kind of sleep shaping, building routines and schedules. I also really enjoy the older kids who maybe they have just moved out of a crib or they're getting ready to move out of a crib or they've got a lot of big feelings.

What is the process like for a new client?

Clients can expect to kind of talk about their issue, the struggle that they're having and then the goal that they have in order to kind of overcome that struggle. Then we would just kind of dig into all the different factors that are playing into that struggle that they are experiencing and we would problem solve.

How did your personal postpartum experience influence your work?

When I was in my postpartum period with my first child, I actually had a lot of struggles with breastfeeding, I had a lot of struggles with anxiety, what I now realize is postpartum anxiety. As a therapist, as a clinician I have to find a way to incorporate this to be able to support families to sleep.

Can you share a success story from your coaching practice?

I had a client whose daughter had a lot of sleep associations. They had to put her down asleep, she would wake up and when she would wake up she would cry so much that she would make herself throw up. They were at their end. We met, we talked about the struggles, we created a plan and I walked her and her husband through that plan.
