The interview

What was your life like before joining Vector Marketing?

I live in Spokane, Washington. I was a full-time college student, so that was life beforehand. I found out about the company on school campus; I walked past a poster a few times and decided to look into the opportunity.

Did you face any negativity when starting the job?

My mom thought I was absolutely crazy for spending three days in my room doing a virtual training. Other than that, that's like the most somewhat negativity I experienced.

What made you decide to give this opportunity a try?

It was just the knowledge that I found value in, and I recognized that I could learn. And, of course, I had an amazing manager, but it was mostly the knowledge that I was able to learn through the company that I was interested in.

Can you share a fun story about a sale you made?

My biggest order was on my computer. I live in Washington State, as I mentioned, and they lived in Houston, Texas. That was a really fun order. The guy had a lot of fun trying to negotiate with me and it really helped me with my skills.

What surprised you the most about working with Vector?

The people here. Not only are they incredible, but they're super helpful with everything, whether that's in the job, outside of the job, or personal life. They've just helped me a ton.

How is Vector different from other jobs you have had?

Vector is different from other jobs I've had in the past because they do a really good job at making everything personal and being there for you.

What is the best part of working for Cutco or Vector?

The flexibility I have in my schedule and being able to choose what I do when I want to do, and that allows me to still do everything in my personal life, which I really appreciate.

What specific skills have you learned through this experience?

Two skills I have learned working through Vector was knowing how to talk to people a lot better—I could never hold a conversation—and learning how to dress professionally. My manager actually took me to the store and taught me how to dress properly; now I know how to wear a suit and shop for a suit.

Why would you suggest this job to others?

There's a lot of growth-oriented people within the company that are able to teach you a ton. And if you want to experience personal growth, professional growth, or any kind of growth, this is the company to do it in.
