The interview

What was your life like before joining Vector Marketing?

Before Vector Marketing, my life was pretty hectic, but a lot of the time professionally I was just a babysitter or a nanny. There was never any consistent work. I am a student at Butler University and they take my academics very seriously.

How did you get started with the company?

Vector Marketing sent me a letter in the mail and I happened to be looking for winter break work because college had gotten expensive. I went through the application and interview process back in December 2023 and began the job in December 2023.

Did you experience any negativity or concerns before starting?

The negativity I experienced wasn't necessarily online but it was pretty confrontational. I had a couple of people let me know that they want me to know the truth about what I'm getting into, but I found it better for myself to really apply myself and figure it out for myself and I was able to discover that everything they were saying wasn't true.

What was your initial impression of the people and atmosphere?

From the get go, I was met with kind attitudes and very caring people. It seemed like they genuinely wanted what was best for me. Since then, I've developed such meaningful relationships and it really is a growth oriented community. I was looking to be taken seriously as a professional, but also get along with my coworkers, and that's exactly what I found.

Can you share a specific success story with a customer?

I was recommended to a couple back in July who had been previous Cutco owners. On that demonstration, they were the kindest married couple and I ended up upgrading them. It was such an amazing and rewarding experience that they trusted me enough to educate them. Two weeks later, they called me back over to sharpen their knives and I have a really great relationship with them; they check-in on me throughout the semester.

What surprised you most about working here?

What surprised me the most is the atmosphere and the people. I actually really struggled in college to find my people that wanted to use the college experience to do well and further their career. Vector people are fun and great to be around, but they are also very career oriented and growth oriented.

How is Vector Marketing different from other jobs you've had?

There is no capacity to what I can learn and what I can earn here. In past babysitting jobs, I knew exactly what I would make, but here I have made an incredible amount of money and I am financially stable, helping my parents pay off college. I haven't had to worry about money for the past year and a half.

Why have you decided to stay with the company?

I have decided to stay because of the resume building experience. I now know that my resume is so impressive and it's going to continue to get impressive because I've chosen the growth path and I've chosen to continue being a higher manager in the company.

Speaker 0: Hi, my name is Gianna LaPorte and I am from Riverside, Illinois right next to the Brookfield Zoo. Yeah, before vector marketing, my life was pretty hectic, but a lot of the time professionally I was just a babysitter or a nanny. I lived in with a couple of my families every once in a while, but there was never any consistent work. And then I was a student and I am student. I go to Butler University and they take my academics very seriously. Vector Marketing sent me a letter in the mail and I happened to be looking for winter break work because college had gotten expensive and I went through the application and interview process back in December 2023 and began the job in December 2023. The negativity I experienced wasn't necessarily online but it was pretty confrontational. I had a couple of people let me know that they want me to know the truth about what I'm getting into, but I found it better for myself to really apply myself and figure it out for myself and I was able to discover that everything they were saying wasn't true and even some comments online were something I could ignore. Yeah, from the get go in terms of applying for the job, I was met with kind attitudes and very caring people. It seemed like they genuinely wanted what was best for me, whether I accepted the position or not, and whether they offered me a position or not. And since then, I've developed such meaningful relationships with the people I work with. And it really is a growth oriented community. And that's something that I was looking for throughout my college experience. So it truly came down to the people and having a positive presenting atmosphere as well as just a very professional setting to be in. I was looking to be taken seriously as a professional, but also get along with my coworkers. And that's exactly what I found here from the moment I scan that QR code. Yeah, absolutely. So I was recommended to one of my summer conference to customers, SCT customers back in July and they had been previous Cutco owners and they absolutely loved the product. So, they were very excited to help me out and on that demonstration, they were the kindest married couple. They joked with me, laughed with me. We talked about anything from their occupations to family and how we're both very family oriented. And I really connected and resonated with them and I ended up upgrading them. It was such an amazing and rewarding experience that they trusted me enough to educate them about the product and then two weeks later, they called me back over to sharpen their knives and I have a really great relationship with them. I text them occasionally and they check-in on me throughout the semester and it's so awesome because they were strangers to me. I did not know them. They were a mutual connection of my uncles. So I really appreciate them and I really appreciate them reaching out and just having that constant contact. I didn't know that I could have such a developed relationship with adults at this, you know, young age of 20 right away but because people are still willing to help you out and help me out, I was able to get them some more awesome in their kitchen and they were able to help me and push me towards my goals. And now we have a great relationship and they check up on me. So I really appreciate them. And they're probably my favorite customers, even though you're not close to our favorites. Yeah. What surprised me the most about vector marketing, would say is the atmosphere and the people that are involved just because I was looking for that sort of community that would push me to be my best while also understanding that I'm still learning and I actually really struggled in college to find my people, find people that wanted to use the college experience to do well and further their career and I found that Vector people are fun and they're great to be around, but they are also very career oriented, very growth oriented, and it's so nice to be in that atmosphere of a welcoming community that wants me to do well, wants me to achieve my goals and pushes me even further than my goals and lets me know that I'm capable of so much more. I didn't know that there was an environment like that for a college student and it was surprising and very rewarding and I love it and I'm very grateful for it every day. I would say effective marketing is different from other jobs I've had in the past because there is no capacity to what I can learn and what I can earn here at Vector. I know in other positions it was always unexpected weekly salary especially in past babysitting jobs, I knew exactly what I would make by the end of summer. But here at Vector, I have made an incredible amount of money and I am financially stable, helping my parents pay off college for myself because of the opportunity and the income opportunity there is here. I come from a not so wealthy family and we've always sort of figured things out to make ends meet and because Vector, I haven't had worry about money for the past year and a half and so very grateful for the fact that there is no cap to what I can earn and then what I can learn. I learn something new every day here whether it's a mindset shift, whether it is just simply how to do the job better. And because of that, I have become a better, more well rounded person. I am a more confident person and I appreciate it. I love it. I love everything about this position. So I'm very grateful that it is so different. And the fact that there's never any stopping point, you can just keep going and keep achieving new goals and everyone around is going to support you. I have decided to stay with Vector Marketing because of the resume building experience. I have always heard the quote Vector is great place to be while you don't know where you want to be. And I'm a college student, I'm not expected to have my life laid out for me even though I am a pretty super planner. So it was awesome to be around people that supported me and continuously offered me opportunities for growth and building my resume. I now know that my resume is so impressive and it's going to continue to get impressive because I've chosen the growth path and I've chosen to continue being a higher manager in the company and all of those sort of resources were offered to me because of working here. So it was very awesome to have that opportunity, as well as the people having that supportive environment around me to push me to achieve things that I've always wanted to achieve. But at a much earlier age, didn't receive as being my future, but I'm very grateful that it is. I would recommend back to marketing to anyone and everyone because I am so very passionate about the opportunities for growth here. I often tell my own representatives, I do not remember the person I was one year ago prior to working with this company. And to me, that is the telltale sign that I'm doing something right. I'm in a good place and I'm in a place of growth day in and day out and that means more to me than I could ever say. I feel I'm the most me I've ever been while working here and that experience alone is so impactful for me because I wouldn't want to be anyone else aside from myself and the fact that I'm in a position where I'm pushed to be myself while also pushed to try new things is amazing. And if you're on the fence, it's going to be worthwhile. You just give it a shot. And that's what I would tell anyone who's looking to apply. Apply. Yes, I verbally consent.
