The interview

What was your situation before starting with Vector Marketing?

I had just started college in August at SIUE, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. I was working at a small boutique clothing store, but I wasn't getting the hours that I wanted. I started looking for different job opportunities, specifically something at home, because college is expensive and I needed more money.

How did you first hear about the opportunity?

I was talking with one of my roommates and she had just got a message from a girl asking if she was looking for an at-home job. I told her to send my number along too, and that is kind of where I was at before starting here.

Did you or your family have any concerns about the company?

I wouldn't say I experienced negativity, but after the interview, I called my mom. She was wary because she had done gig things like Mary Kay where you buy into the company. I told her no, I'm doing it all for free training-wise, and then I get paid once I start doing the demos.

What was your parents' experience with the products?

It was a fun experience showing them the product. They started by getting a few pieces, and once they came to love them, they upgraded to our signature set. My mom absolutely loves her pieces; she was cutting chicken with the trimmer one day and said, 'Oh my god, Taylor, I love this thing.'

What surprised you most about working with Vector?

Just how open everyone is and how much everyone wants to succeed. We are all here to help each other. My district manager is awesome about wanting to help me out and is there to listen anytime I need help with anything.

How did the flexibility of the role impact your work-life balance?

I liked that there was flexibility to choose when I wanted to do my demos. At the time, I was still working my part-time job too. When I had a busier work week for classes, I didn't have the pressure to get five demos in. It was to my schedule and my liking, which you can't really find anywhere else as a college student.

What specific sales achievements and skills have you gained?

I sold 17k in fourteen days for the SC2 push, which was astonishing. It taught me about hard work, time management, and blocking out a schedule. I'm also gaining leadership experience; I'll be opening my own branch office this summer.

Would you recommend Vector Marketing to others?

I would highly recommend it based on everything it has given me: the opportunity to work in management, earn income beyond my wildest dreams as a student, and learn how to network. It's something I never expected as a freshman or sophomore in college.

Speaker 0: Hi, I'm Taylor Utley. I am from St. Louis, Missouri. Yeah. Yeah. So I had just started college in August at SIUE, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. And before coming to college, I was working at a little small boutique like clothing store, and they had a location here in Edwardsville. So I transferred over and was working there as well. But I kind of wasn't getting the hours that I wanted. And so near kind of the middle of the semester, I started looking for more different job opportunities, but wasn't really getting a lot. So then I was like, you know what? Why don't I look for something that's at home maybe? And so I was talking with my, one of my roommates and she was like, I just got this message from this girl. And she was asking me if I was looking for an at home job. If so, send her my number. I was like, you know what? Send my number along too. Why not? So that's kind of where I was at before starting here. Financial wise, again, I wasn't really getting the hours that I wanted at my previous job. I needed more money. As we all know, college is expensive. So that's kind of where I was at with that. I wouldn't say that I experienced really any negativity around Vector. After the interview process, I went I didn't go home. I was at my dorm. I called my mom, told her about the experience. She was like, oh, well, make sure you're not gonna have to like pay into the company, anything like that. Like be wary of it because she's done like some small gig things like that before, like Mary Kay, things like that, where you get to buy into the company. So that was her biggest concern. And I was like, no. No. Like, I'm doing it all for free, like, trading wise, and then I get paid once I start doing the demos. Yeah. So I would say like my parents, that was pretty fun experience. Just getting to show them the product the first time, they started off with just getting a few pieces here and there. And then once I kind of grew with the company and they came to love the product that they got, they were interested in upgrading and getting our signature set. And now my mom absolutely loves her pieces in it. She was holding the trimmer one day and she was like cutting some chicken up, and getting the fat off of it. She's like, oh my god, Taylor, I love this thing. I was like, I know. It's awesome. I'll be telling you that. Yeah, one thing in particular that really surprised me with working with Vector would be just how opening everyone is and how much everyone wants to succeed. And we're all here to succeed and we're all here to help each other succeed. My district manager, she's awesome about wanting to help me out and here to listen anytime that I need help with anything, which was always so nice to have. Yeah, so when I first started, especially, I started the K Club streak. And once I went back, was already at three weeks and everyone was like, well, you got to keep going for it. So I did. And selling that one k a week was hard some weeks and easier others. But I liked that there was that flexibility to choose when I wanted to do my demos and when the best time was for me. Because around that time, I was still working my part time job too, just to make sure that I still had income coming in. And I liked the fact that when I had a busier work week for classes or work, I didn't have to have that pressure of, you know, get five demos in or things like that. It was to my schedule and to my liking. And you can't find that really anywhere else as a college student because everyone wants you to be on a set schedule. And if you're not on that set schedule, then they're like. Yeah, I would say a lot of confidence has come from this job. In particular, like the SE2 push. I sold 17 ks in fourteen days for that push and I never thought I could do something like that. Like, that was astonishing in itself. But also it taught me a lot about hard work, Just in general, like, time management too is huge. Like blocking out your schedule and knowing when you're going to be doing things, when you're going to be driving somewhere, that's all humongous. But then also, like, the leadership aspects that I'm getting as well. I'll be opening my own branch office this summer, and I'm excited for all of those opportunities and experiences that I'm gonna be gaining there as well. I would highly recommend vector marketing to others just based on the fact of everything that it has given me. The opportunity to work in management, the opportunity to earn income beyond my wildest dreams as a college student, and also get to meet and talk with people that I may have not talked to in a while, or meeting new people as well and learning how to network. And also just all the travel opportunities that Vector gives. It's all wonderful and something that I would have never expected as a freshman in college and now sophomore, junior in college. It's nothing that anyone out there is going to give someone in college until they're years into their career. Yes.
