Dan Newcomb of Liquor License Advisor credits Vision Driven for transforming his business model and personal life. By working one-on-one with Jen, he developed a clear three-year 'Vivid Vision' that allowed him to align his team, shift his leadership style, and move from being 'uncomfortable' to leading with intentionality and clarity.

I never had to guess how I was going to get from here to there. I knew exactly what was happening from the moment I walked in the door.
I can give [my employees] a copy of my vision and say, 'This is where we're going to be in 3 years. This is where we're headed. There's no question about it.'
I'm leveling up my game because for me to get what I want in 3 years, I can't be the same person that I was 2 weeks ago or a month ago.

The interview

How did you first encounter Vision Driven and what was your initial reaction?

Jen presented on stage, and when I heard her speak, it just hit me right between the eyes that that's my problem. I just don't have it figured out. I don't know what I want. As soon as she was done with her presentation, I went up to her and made an appointment to go meet with her.

What is your overall experience with Vision Driven?

My overall experience is very, very high. I'm very satisfied. From the moment Jen stepped on stage and welcomed me afterwards with a conversation, we signed up. I never had to guess how I was going to get from here to there; I knew exactly what was happening from the moment I walked in the door.

How has having a vision impacted your daily decision-making?

Every time you pick up the phone or you're making a decision, your decisions are all driven by what your business vision is, which leads to your personal vision. I can actually give this to my business associates or an employee and say, 'This is where we're going to be in 3 years. This is where we're headed. There's no question about it.'

What was your life and business like before working with Jen?

Prior to working with Vision Driven, my wife and I had sold our house in Massachusetts and moved onto a boat. My business was satisfactory—it was doing okay when I wasn't paying all the attention to it. But there came a time that it really required my attention. We moved to Connecticut, decided to sell the boat and build a house, and I wanted to take the business in a direction that would result in me being able to get another boat and get back on the ocean while still having the house and doing the work.

Why did you decide to invest in a VIP day?

I joined the consulting group and at that event, I signed up for a VIP day. I figured that it was important enough for me to spend the money and fly from Connecticut to Austin to work with her one-on-one. I didn't want to do a group coaching. This was something I needed to do because on the inside I was so uncomfortable—I wasn't comfortable where the business was going or where my life was going.

What personal benefits did you experience from this process?

One of the benefits was being able to really think about how I can connect with my daughters, being intentional about it versus just winging it. The same with my mother and my wife. My relationships with my whole family have shifted to a much more intentional way of treating everybody.

What surprised you most about the working process?

What surprised me the most was that the work is not as simple as I thought it might be. It really took a lot of brain power. But once we broke through and figured out the business model and the changes we needed to make, she was very knowledgeable. I got a consultant that really knew how to tear things apart or break things down and get me to see what needed to shift.

What results have you seen since starting the work?

For the last 3 weeks, since I started with Jen and we had a draft, I've been working with my team, getting clarity and we've moved this whole thing around. Our whole business model's changed. We're well down the path of making the shifts that we need to. More importantly, I'm leveling up my game because for me to get what I want in 3 years, I can't be the same person that I was 2 weeks ago.

Frequently asked

Is the Vision Driven process easy to implement?

Dan Newcomb noted that the work is not as simple as he initially thought and required significant 'brain power.' However, he emphasized that once they broke through and figured out the business model changes, the path forward became clear.

Should I choose group coaching or a VIP day with Vision Driven?

Dan Newcomb specifically chose to 'write the check' for a one-on-one VIP day in Austin rather than group coaching. He felt his internal discomfort and the need for business shifts were important enough to warrant dedicated, individual time with Jen.

How does a Vivid Vision help with team management?

Dan explained that having the final vision allows him to give a copy to business associates and employees so they know exactly where the company is headed in three years. He has already spent weeks working with his team to make necessary shifts based on the draft vision.
