The interview

What was your lifestyle like before your diagnosis?

I've always been active for the last so many years, doing many different things from yoga to Pilates to lifting weights. I always tried to follow holistic concepts and different things that could help improve my well-being from emotional to mental to spiritual avenues.

How did you react to the news of your diagnosis?

It definitely comes as a surprise when you get that kind of news. Whenever you get some kind of message like 'hey, you have breast cancer,' you are really taken aback, which I completely was. It just didn't make any sense to me that I could have that type of a situation happening when I felt like I was a really strong, healthy person.

How were you introduced to Breast Cancer Conqueror and Dr. V?

I was guided to it by a friend who had signed up and also Dr. V. I had reached out to her with some questions. I'm a very investigative personality. She quickly understood where I was coming from and said, 'Cut to the chase... you do need this and here's why.' She gave me some very definitive pieces of information that I resonated with.

What was the benefit of having professional support during this time?

I just saw the importance to have somebody helping me. Even if I was fully capable of maybe trying to find things out there that could help me, clearly I wouldn't know all the things and there's so much more that was brought to me. I just needed to have somebody help me find that information.

How would you describe the responsiveness and expertise of the team?

I feel like they really knew all of the places that I was coming from with questions, with nerves, with just everything that I had a question on or possibly experienced a side effect. They were already ahead of the game and had known about it and really gave me practical things to help or were really good at listening. Very responsive. Cutting edge, almost.

How did the program handle your specific treatment choices?

They were supportive of whatever direction I wanted to go in, whether it was mingling traditional medicine with holistic medicine. Even if I wanted to change the game midstream and I wanted to focus more on one, they were happy to pivot any direction that I wanted to go and gave me data and information. There was never, ever any judgment.

Who would you recommend this program to?

It's really for anybody. The information is—they're great principles just for life. It's very applicable. There is room for anybody who just wants to try to apply some good principles to their journey and so I definitely recommend it and wouldn't bat an eye telling somebody, 'hey, go here.' I've given out the information to more people than I can count.

It definitely comes as a surprise when you get that kind of news. I've always been active - or for the last so many years I've been active, really, doing many different things from yoga to Pilates to lifting weights, all kinds of different things. Always tried to follow holistic concepts and different things that could help improve my well-being. From emotional to mental to spiritual, all these different avenues. And so whenever you get some kind of message like "hey, you have breast cancer," you are really taken aback which I completely was. It just didn't make any sense to me that I could have that type of a situation happening when I felt like I was a really strong, healthy person. My name is Amber Medellin and I am a recruiting specialist for a company and I am from Southern California, Orange County. Well, I was guided to it by a friend who had signed up and also Dr. V. I had reached out to her with some questions. I'm a very investigative personality. She quickly understood where I was coming from, had already, maybe, experienced them herself before or talked to others about it and said, "Cut to the chase... you do need this and here's why." So she gave me some very definitive pieces of information that I feel like I resonated with and it spoke to me and I just saw the importance to have somebody helping me. Even if I was fully capable of, maybe, trying to find things out there that could help me. Clearly I wouldn't know all the things and there's so much more that was brought to me. I just needed to have somebody help me find that information. I feel like they really knew all of the places that I was coming from with questions, with nerves, with... just everything that I had, maybe, had a question on or possibly experienced a side effect. They were already ahead of the game and had known about it and really gave me practical things to help or were really good at listening. Very responsive. Cutting edge, almost. You know, very forward with it. And also that they were supportive of whatever direction I wanted to go in. Whether it was mingling traditional medicine with holistic medicine. Even if I wanted to change the game midstream and I wanted to focus more on one, they were happy to pivot any direction that I wanted to go and gave me data, information. There was never, ever any judgment. There's always support. So it is really surprising because you can go to holistic and people can be very intense and very committed to their ideas and you can go to the traditional side and they can be the same way. So you can get people that are very strongly opinionated and entrenched and I like that I came here and that was not the case. There was a softness to it that allowed me to find what worked for me and what I could get on board with. I choose this because I love my body and I love myself and so I'm going to do this good thing for myself. It's really for anybody. The information is - they're great principles just for life. It's very applicable. There's no judgment. There is room for anybody who just wants to try to apply some good principles to their journey and so I definitely recommend it and wouldn't bat an eye telling somebody, "hey, go here." And I've given out the information to more people than I can count.
