The interview
What is your background and how did you get involved with this event?
I am Amanda Holmes, CEO of The Ultimate Sales Machine. When I first walked the floor of the biohacking conference, I felt intensely that the businesses in the trade show booths needed their own conference. My company assisted with an event called Business Mastery, and I kept hearing we needed a 'Business Mastery for biohacking.' When Dave Asprey told me he was doing exactly that, I told him 'You need me!' and I've been on stage training the room for the last three days.
Why is this specific business training necessary for the biohacking industry?
The healthcare industry is not able to sustain what is necessary to assist our growing, aging consumer base. We don't have the medical system to support them, so biohackers need to get better at communicating what they do so magnificently so consumers can find them. They need these solutions but don't know where to go or what to look for.
What measurable progress did you see in the participants' sales skills?
In the first 24 hours, we surveyed the room on their confidence in pitching a cold prospect in less than one minute. The room started with a 5.3 score. Within less than 24 hours, that jumped to 8.1, which was a 52.8% increase in confidence that they could clearly articulate how to sell their product.
How is the training structured for the attendees?
It's not just hearing a speaker and writing down notes. We are getting together in groups at the tables, and everyone is giving feedback on each other's pitches. You are learning it, building it, and using it right here in the room. We even held a pitch contest where each table became the top ten consultants in the semifinals.
Have you seen any immediate business results from the attendees?
I'm hearing strategic partnerships happening because they've better articulated what they do. One gentleman I loved sent an email between the first and second day and generated seven leads. We're generating leads and creating partnerships that can last, and we haven't even finished the event yet.
What was the atmosphere and speaker engagement like at the event?
I am shocked at how many of the speakers have stayed all three days. Usually, speakers fly in and fly out, but here they are sticking around for other speakers and are available. I've never seen Dave more available than he's been here at the Business of Biohacking; it is remarkable.
Frequently asked
Can biohackers learn to communicate their value to mainstream consumers?
Yes. Amanda Holmes observed that while biohackers do magnificent work, they often struggle to communicate it; however, through structured pitch training at the event, participants learned to clearly articulate their value to cold prospects in under 60 seconds.
Is the Business of Biohacking event just passive listening?
No, it is highly interactive. Amanda Holmes notes that participants don't just write notes; they get into groups at tables to give feedback on each other's pitches, building and using the skills right in the room.
How accessible are the speakers and Dave Asprey at the event?
Amanda Holmes expressed shock at the accessibility, noting that speakers stayed for all three days rather than flying out after their sets, and stated she had never seen Dave Asprey more available than at this event.
