The interview

Can you introduce yourself and describe the service Mathew Joseph provided?

My name is Anu Thomas. I am Tina Thomas. We live in Forney, Texas. Mr. Matthew assisted us in buying this home so he was our realtor and he did the home inspection for us.

What specific advantages did his engineering background provide during the purchase?

His expertise in engineering, code and home inspection was an added advantage in our home purchase. He was there to check before the closing if all the issues were solved or not, and he was in the attic and all around the house making sure everything is in good condition.

How did he assist you during the actual inspection process?

Hiring Mr. Matthew as an engineer with RSH has really helped us go through the house and identify what things need to be done during the inspection process. He had a very good knowledge of what should be done and what precisely should be looked at and taken care of.

How did he perform in his role as a realtor regarding the financial aspects?

As a realtor, he was a good negotiator and helped us to get a good price for the home, so that is something which I wanted to share on that space.

How did he handle the communication regarding major issues and repairs with the builder?

Matthew supported me on the areas that are likely to have issues and he explained major issues that were identified during the home inspection. He spoke with the builder and suggested the fixes, which was an easy thing for me because I have no expertise in this. I didn't want the builder to discuss the fixes with me; instead, I was getting Matthew into the picture and he was doing the talking for me on what type of fix and the quality.

What kind of support did you receive after you moved into the home?

After we moved in we noticed a couple of other issues and we were able to call Mr. Matthew. He was very welcome and he provided us with what type of fix I should suggest the builder to go ahead with. He was very helpful even after the home purchase. He came home and did a check if the additions he put forward were considered and if the fixes they did were intact; he did that out of his goodwill.

What is your final recommendation for someone considering his services?

If you're sitting on the fence, my recommendation to you is get an engineer with good experience and a good realtor like Mr. Matthew, and somebody who will be very helpful even after your home purchase.

Frequently asked

How can an engineer help when a builder needs to fix inspection issues?

Anu Thomas noted that having Mathew Joseph involved was a relief because he spoke directly with the builder about the specific types of fixes and the required quality. This removed the burden from the homeowner, who did not have the expertise to discuss technical engineering solutions with the builder.

Does Mathew Joseph provide support after the home closing is finished?

Yes, Anu Thomas reported that even after moving in, they were able to call Mr. Joseph regarding new issues. He provided guidance on what fixes to suggest to the builder and even returned to the home out of goodwill to ensure the repairs remained intact.

What is the benefit of hiring a realtor who is also a professional engineer?

According to Anu Thomas, the engineering expertise was an 'added bonus' because it ensured the attic and all areas of the house were checked for code compliance and structural condition, while his realtor skills secured a good price through negotiation.
