The interview

What was your initial goal when you started working with Susan Fox?

My husband and I got married in March of '22 and I knew it was really important to really prepare the body for pregnancy six to twelve months before we really wanted to start trying. I started seeing Susan shortly after our wedding, knowing that January of '23 we were thinking that would be our turn to try. I started seeing her every other week for acupuncture and I felt super comfortable with her knowing that at this phase of my life my goal was to do fertility.

What health complications were you navigating at the start of your journey?

I knew I was very complicated. Two years prior I had had thyroid cancer, so a cancer affecting the endocrine system, which I didn't really know how it would affect my fertility. I did, in between my surgeries for the cancer, I froze my eggs out of a really big rush because they didn't know if I needed radioactive iodine. I always had this weird feeling a little bit that my eggs didn't really come from the right place and that my husband and I would really like to try to do this naturally.

Why did you choose Health Youniversity despite your own medical background?

My background is as a nurse practitioner. I do functional medicine. I've worked in fertility in the past, and so I just really wanted to try to do it the natural way. When I found Susan and with her 20+ years in fertility and women's health, I kind of knew I found the right person to have all my questions answered, but also to feel really comfortable and supported through the process.

How did your plan change when you discovered you had mold illness?

I had started losing a good bit of weight and unsure why and a little bit worried that my cancer had come back. Susan was really there for me to make sure I stopped being my own provider and actually got my own help from somebody else and let somebody else quarterback my care. I ended up having mold illness. So Susan and I kind of shifted gears to really do a big focus on detoxifying my body, supporting my liver and gallbladder, making better choices with the food I eat, and cleaning up all my cleaning products at home.

What were the specific results of your work with Health Youniversity?

In March, I started a really big detox protocol. I really think in the six months that I put a lot of effort in on the detox and making a lot of those lifestyle changes with her support my husband and I were actually able to get pregnant naturally. A little surprise, actually, just this past August. It's been really fun to see how the hard work and working with a team of people and all the support really helps get you to this part on your fertility journey.

How would you describe the emotional support you received?

I really have to credit Susan on really helping my husband and I get pregnant naturally, sticking to my goals, staying grounded through the process. There were some really emotional times, but I felt that she could talk me off the ledge, which was really nice. She's just got a really calming, warming presence, and it's the best hug you'll ever get.
