The interview
What is your professional background and what led you to seek care?
My name is Denise Bowles and I work for the airlines loading airplanes, which is very strenuous. I had hurt myself at work and had to have knee surgery, but I wasn't getting better afterward. I was in physical therapy but couldn't get past lifting 25 pounds, even though I used to lift 100 pounds like it was nothing. No one was giving me answers.
How did you first hear about Dr. Lazar?
I heard about him on the radio station WMUZ. His podcast came on the radio while I was struggling to recover.
What was the initial timeline for your recovery process?
They told me I would still feel a lot of pain and not feel so great for about six weeks. They said at right at those six weeks, you're going to wake up and it's going to be like a whole new version of yourself. That's exactly what happened; I felt bad through Halloween and woke up the next day feeling good.
How did your physical limitations impact your daily life?
I couldn't even stand in front of the stove for 30 minutes to cook for my family. I'm someone who lifts luggage and cargo at work, but all of a sudden, I couldn't even take a load of laundry downstairs. That was a really big impact.
How did the clinic coordinate with your other treatments like physical therapy?
When I started care, I was currently in physical therapy. They stopped me from the therapy until my spine started to stabilize. In January, they let me know I could start physical therapy again to build up my muscles so I could start lifting for work.
What is the clinical environment and approach like at Lazar Spinal Care?
Dr. Lazar has a good, sometimes sarcastic humor which I love, and they have a very inviting office. They are very engaging and try to accommodate whatever your situation is. Most importantly, they don't tell me they can do something if they actually can't. I want the truth so I can make an informed decision.
What would you say to someone hesitant about trying chiropractic care?
Just try it and see what happens. It's not invasive. They don't do the karate chop method where they try to fold you up like a pretzel. It's simple movements and simple pressure. If you've had bad experiences in the past, don't write them off because they're not your usual chiropractic office.
Frequently asked
Is Lazar Spinal Care like traditional chiropractic cracking?
Denise Bowles explains that the clinic does not use the 'karate chop method' or fold patients like pretzels. Instead, they use simple movements and pressure in specific spots to let the body heal itself naturally.
How long does it take to see results at Lazar Spinal Care?
Denise was told she would feel pain for about six weeks during the stabilization phase. Exactly at the six-week mark, she describes waking up feeling like a 'whole new version' of herself.
Can chiropractic care help if physical therapy isn't working?
Yes, Denise turned to Dr. Lazar when physical therapy failed to help her lift more than 25 pounds after surgery. After her spine stabilized under his care, she was able to resume therapy and successfully rebuild her muscle for work.
