Ben Dailey of Awaken Church credits Left Right Labs with successfully rebranding their 66-year-old organization during its transition from Calvary Church to Awaken Church. The interview

What was your initial impression of Left Right Labs and their suitability for your organization?

At first, I wasn't sure this was for us. You hear strategy and you hear startups, big corporate rollouts. You don't really think 'church that's been around for decades'—66 years. But from the first conversation, I could tell Trina and Gretchen weren't just brand people; they were people people.

What specific challenge were you facing when you hired them?

We were in the middle of a massive shift moving from Calvary Church to Awaken Church. I knew if we were going to do this right, we couldn't just slap a new name on a sign and call it a day. We needed something deeper; we needed people who could help us figure out who we are now.

How did they handle the discovery and strategy process with your leadership?

They put them in a room with a bunch of different leadership types, and they didn't just survive. They knew how to pull the gold out of every single one of us. They somehow get everyone rowing in the same direction without anyone feeling like they got left out of the process.

What makes their creative approach different from other agencies?

They don't come up with some cookie-cutter formula and then force you into it. They don't roll their eyes when your leaders start going off on a tangent; they roll with it. They understood that before you ever talk about colors or logos, you gotta talk about heart.

What was the tangible outcome of the rebranding project?

Now, people feel like they understand who we are and why we're here within seconds of interacting with us. It's like we went from, 'Oh yeah, I've heard of them,' to 'Oh, I know exactly what they're about.' They didn't just give us a brand, they gave us better language for ourselves.

How would you describe the team's attention to detail and communication?

This team, they are detail ninjas. They pay attention to everything, not just the big idea stuff, but the little choices that make your brand feel alive. They roll up their sleeves to make sure it actually happens, they were great to communicate with, and they were on top of it.

Frequently asked

Is Left Right Labs only for startups and corporate rollouts?

How does Left Right Labs handle diverse leadership teams?

According to Ben Dailey, the team knew how to 'pull the gold' out of different leadership types and get everyone 'rowing in the same direction' without anyone feeling left out of the process.

What deliverables does Left Right Labs provide beyond a logo?

Ben Dailey noted they received 'better language' and specific words for their leaders to use, alongside visuals and detail-oriented choices that made the brand feel alive and sustainable for years.
