Without a margin, you have no mission. And to not be afraid of the fact that you need to have a profitable business in order to have a business that serves other people.
I have not done a single thing in my professional or personal life in the last seven years... that has meant more to me on either one of those levels.
It gave me the courage to recognize that I could take that voice to more people than just the one-to-one interactions I was having before.

The interview

What would you say to someone considering attending the Mindshare Summit?

I have not done a single thing in my professional or personal life in the last seven years that has meant more to me on either one of those levels. I have met more important, engaging, best friends of people here. I call these people my tribe, and it didn't take me seven years to do that; that happened in short order.

How has the community impacted your medical practice and personal mission?

For that to flow over into my practice, which is also what I consider my life and my love, has been one of the single most important things I think anybody can do. No matter what business or focus you have, to be able to honor yourself and honor your mission, both personally and professionally, is pretty extraordinary. Mindshare has been just that for me.

What is the importance of the information and community you found here?

It took me years to find a community like this one that makes me confident that the people I'm listening to, the information that I'm getting, and the promise that it holds for how I treat patients in the future has all the best information. It comes from people who are very dedicated to doing things at the highest and best level, not only intellectually but also from the heart.

How has your influence as a practitioner changed since joining?

I feel like my influence has grown because I approach every patient interaction with a sense of warmth and competence that reads very authentically. It gave me the courage to recognize that I could take that voice to more people than just the one-to-one interactions I was having before, and to feel unlimited when it comes to how many people I can positively influence.

In what practical ways has the Summit moved the needle for your business?

It gave me the energy and enthusiasm that is often lost in the medical community due to other demands. Practically, it helped me recognize opportunities for optimizing my time-to-effort on the business ratio. I've built a business model that allows me to serve patients better today and to amplify, grow, and scale my business in the future.

What was a key takeaway regarding business sustainability?

One of my takeaways from today was that, without a margin, you have no mission. You need to have a profitable business in order to have a business that serves other people. We can't do what we're doing from under a bridge or lacking enthusiasm because we're so stressed out that the business aspect is overloading us.

To convince you to come to this Summit, what I would say is that I have not done a single thing in my professional or personal life in the last seven years, which was when I started attending Mindshare, that has meant more to me on either one of those levels. I have met more important, engaging, best friends of people and human beings here. I call these people my tribe, and it didn't take me seven years to do that. That happened in short order. But for that to flow over into my practice, which is also what I consider my life and my love, has been one of the single most important things I think anybody can do. No matter what business or focus you have to be able to honor yourself and honor your mission, both personally and professionally, is pretty extraordinary. And Mindshare has been just that for me. I'm Kayleigh Boutwell. I am an interventional pain management specialist at XCEL Orthopedics and Pain Management Centers, and I live in St. Louis, Missouri. I'll go back to something that is the reason I do medicine. I fully believe in the mantra that a man with his health has a million dreams, and a man without it has but one. One of the things that led me into pain management is that I feel like pain is sort of the apex predator of that particular statement and truth. And I think that it means that people who do what we do have a responsibility to do that with that acknowledgement and that level of regard for the importance of the risks and benefits of what we do and the information that we put out there. And it took me years to find a community like this one that makes me confident that the people I'm listening to, the information that I'm getting, and the promise that it holds for how I treat patients in the future has all the best information. That it comes from people who are very dedicated to doing things at the highest and best level. Not only just from an intellectual standpoint, but also one that really comes from the heart. People who are really engaged in their information, and it means something very deeply to them to know that what they're doing is being done in the best possible way and patient-centered. On a person-to-person, individual level, I feel like my influence has grown because I approach every patient interaction, one to one, with a sense of warmth and competence that I think reads very authentically to a patient. I think it's incredibly important for a patient to know they're with someone who they can trust, who has their best interest in mind, and who is educated at the highest level. So that I feel has amplified my influence on my one-to-one patient interactions. But also, it gave me the courage to recognize that I could take that voice to more people than just the one-to-one interactions I was having before. And to really feel like I'm unlimited when it comes to how many people I can positively influence at one opportunity. And to recognize how, in a very practical way, to create those opportunities to get that message to as many people as possible. The Summit has moved the needle in my business in more ways than I have time to share, and all of that needle-moving was in the right direction. So firstly, I think it gave me the energy and the enthusiasm that I think in our medical community is getting lost too often now because of the other demands that come along with being a health practitioner. But recognizing that your enthusiasm can be directed in a way that remains meaningful to your patients or clients, depending on who you're serving, and be of business benefit to us as individuals. One of the things I love most about Mindshare, is that just when you think you've gotten all the information, all the inspiration, all the things you can handle, it will add one more thing. So, one of my takeaways from today was that, without a margin, you have no mission. And to not be afraid of the fact that you need to have a profitable business in order to have a business that serves other people. We can't do what we're doing from under a bridge or lacking enthusiasm because we're so stressed out that the business aspect of what we do is sort of overloading us. So, the practical way in which this Summit has helped me with my business is recognizing opportunities for optimizing my time to effort on the business ratio, and to come into it with a confidence that I've built a business model that will allow me to serve my patients better today and to amplify, grow, and scale my business in the future.
