The interview
Who are you and what is your role at Perspectives Holistic Therapy?
Hi, my name is Alexandra Lucas. I go by Alex. I'm a psychotherapist at Perspectives Center for Holistic Therapy. I have been with Perspectives for two years.
What are your areas of specialization?
I specialize in working with kids and adolescents and adults who are struggling with neurodiversity, neurodivergent issues, as well as anxiety, depression, Obsessive-compulsive disorder and PTSD.
What is your primary goal when working with clients?
What I want most is for my clients to feel that they are seen and heard. I think in a lot of spaces in our world people don't have the opportunity to be understood and that's my most important goal when working with clients, so that they know I'm here and that whatever they need to feel most supported is what matters most to me.
What is your educational and professional background?
I knew around the time I was in middle school that I was very interested in the human brain and how it works. When I went to college I decided I wanted to major in psychology and so that's what I did and then after that I got a master's in clinical mental health counseling so that I could become a therapist full time.
How would you describe your therapeutic style?
My approach and my style to therapy is very person centered as well as really focusing on kind of the cognitive distortions that we tell ourselves and come to believe about ourselves to be true and I hope in working together that we can rewrite that story.
How can therapy benefit a person's daily life?
I think therapy can benefit people in a multitude of ways, one being to externalize things that are going on in your world, in your mind so that you're not keeping it all in. I also think it gives kind of an unbiased perspective that maybe you wouldn't get from a family member or a friend.
What does 'holistic therapy' mean in your practice?
Holistic therapy is all about the whole person. It's not just giving you a diagnosis or a label and working from a very limited view. The scope is much broader so that we have an understanding of all of the contributing factors to how you're feeling and how you're moving through your day to day.
