The interview
What was your life like before attending 40 Years of Zen?
I felt like life was really hard and something was lacking. I was identifying patterns and feelings of stress, frustration, or overwhelm that were hurting my relationships, but I felt very stuck on how to overcome them. Even though I had a husband, a kid, my own businesses, and financial freedom, I wasn't living in the present moment; my brain was often elsewhere.
What made you decide to say yes to the program?
I've been on a journey the last couple of years wanting to grow and unpack blind spots. I turn 40 next week, and I wanted to give myself the gift of getting rid of patterns or baggage—some I knew about and some I didn't—to go into my 40th birthday as a better version of myself.
What was your experience with the pod sessions and debriefs?
The pod sessions were really, really magical. I really believe I connected with my inner child and my future self and all these other versions of myself. The debriefs with the guide and other participants involved so much vulnerability and value, helping to stitch together those visualizations into a story about my life now and my future.
What has shifted the most for you after the program?
Probably the sense of gratitude I have for my life. I'm able to see my life in a new perspective and realize that I already had so much of what I desired; it was just blocked by childhood wounds or other baggage. Once I worked through that, it opened up the life I'm living in all the light.
How do you think this will impact your life going forward?
I think the most important impact will be on the relationships in my life. I came here seeking deeper connection with my kids, husband, team, friends, and family. I already feel the shifts and I'm excited to have relationships filled with love, compassion, joy, fun, and lots of connection.
Why would you recommend 40 Years of Zen to others?
I don't think there's any other way you can have this profound of a shift in your life, heart, and mind. I have read tons of books, listened to podcasts, done therapy for years, and had life coaches, but this is 100 times more beneficial than all the work I've done in the last 20 years of life.
